Fox's X-MEN Spin-Off Series HELLFIRE Loses Showrunners To 24: LEGACY

With Fox's upcoming X-Men spin-off series Hellfire expected to now arrive in 2017, the original creators have decided to bow out and shift their focus to Fox's Jack Bauer-less 24 spin-off 24: Legacy.

Earlier, we received news that Fox's upcoming X-Men spin-off series Hellfire wouldn't be arriving until early 2017. Now, we have a much bigger update.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that co-creators/writers Evan Katz & Manny Coto have left the project. Patrick McKay & John D. Payne, who worked with Katz & Coto to develop the story and were set to pen the script, have also exited.

Before you get ahead of yourself and think the worst, here's why the original creators have decided to switch gears - it's because Hellfire is on a much slower development path, as evidenced by its expected 2017 premiere date, and with 24: Legacy, Fox's new Jack Bauer-less 24 continuation, receiving a pilot order for this upcoming television season, Katz & Coto, who both served as executive producers on 24 & 24: Live Another Day, decided to shift their focus to the more imminent series.

According to the report, Fox remains highly committed to the superhero spin-off series, which follows a young special agent who crosses paths with a power-hungry woman with extraordinary powers, subsequently learning that she's working with a secret society of millionaires, known as The Hellfire Club, to take over the world. THR adds that Fox is working extra hard to make sure they get it completely right as the X-Men franchise remains a highly valuable and lucrative property for the company.

On a final note, there is hope that if Hellfire goes to series, and their Batman-prequel series Gotham gets renewed for a third season, that the network would have dramas airing from both comic book juggernauts - Marvel & DC Comics.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Legacy shows/movies are the worst, just soulless cash grabs that are banking on a preexisting name (Transporter Refueled, Bourne Legacy, and more than likely 24: Legacy).

At least their other X-Men show, Legion, still has the Fargo showrunner behind it and it's on FX.

I'm glad to hear that they're working very hard to get it right but they'd be screwing themselves over if they decide to forcibly tie it into the movie universe. You can still do it, but bring back the key highlighters of the Hellfire club. There are more members of course but come on, Sebastian Shaw is what primarily defines the group. I've heard that this show is also supposed to take place in 1964? That would make it what? A year or two after the events in First Class. We don't need the big players within the first season but a build up to their "true" wearabouts later would be redeeming.

The idea would be to draw in people who are not familiar to this group..........ask your g/f or anyone else on the street who the "Hellfire Club" is. They either don't know or don't care. Getting people interested is the issue imo

"They better wear those clothes like they do in the comics and not the ones from First Class."

Agreed!

They actually "teased" their classic appearal in First Class. That scene when Charles and Eric capture Emma Frost and Charles reads her mind you can see Sebastian Shaw wearing his old fashioned apparel.

@AsgardianHobo

Without the context of the movies or comics "Hellfire Club" sounds like a refined sex club.

LOL, right? Context is key, and developing these characters has to be paramount.................or else......who would care?

What worries me is that these guys left to run a 24 reboot that, according to the rumors, will NOT star Kiefer Sutherland. How, exactly, is that grass "greener" or, more to the point, what was going on with "Hellfire" to make that option more viable? Oh well, hopefully we'll hear more soon.

E@ 1999Batman:

Why is that "too bad"? People can like whatever they wanna like. If you like both, then good for you. But there's nothing wrong whatsoever, with people liking one or the other.

yeah 24 without Bauer is gonna be kind of pointless....but I guess that's why it's called Legacy. Bauer changed a lot of shit. I think it'll be interesting to see where they go.

Also Amber Heard for Emma Frost???

DUDE. YES. I'd be so down for that.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Marvel comics has pretty much ruined the X-Men and I'm hoping Fox's movies and tv shows can keep the torch burning until they get their $#!& together.
I'm hoping this show is all about The Hellions.

@Portman @Amazing512 Agreed and agreed. However, I'll still watch it. Even if it kills me. I can't give up Hope that they will, at some point, do even minor justice to these characters. That being said; Natalie Dormer for Emma Frost/White Queen(If Marvel can't get her for Me. Marvel).

How they handle Emma is gonna say A LOT about how serious they are about this franchise. IMO. Fox NEEDS to redeem themselves after turning one of the greatest telepaths on the planet, a woman who could go toe to toe with Prof. X, into a mindless insignificant trophy wife.

I'm more interested in who plays Selene than Emma Frost. Emma will probably be the good-guy/Xavier role after a while.
I hope they do that classic story with Empath and Magma on the run in Nova Roma.

Just further proof that unlike DC and Marvel comic book properties just aren't worth as a high a priority for Fox.

If I ruled the world I would give X-Men back to Marvel, Give Fox nothing, Keep RR as Deadpool (because Deadpool is the only character where you can say "F it, its Deadpool"), And I would keep the X-Men characters designs from Deadpool.

I was wondering what they'd end up calling the show because, if the put it on network tv, the suits will have a hissy fit over the name "Hellfire Club" and "The Heckfire Club" just wouldn't cut it. I would like to see them do this on Netflix, as the freedom there would allow them to REALLY get into the history of the club.

You know, to this day, I have never seen an episode of "24".
