HAWKEYE: New Update On The Disney+ Series Points To Hailee Steinfeld Still Being Marvel's Top Choice

Hawkeye is expected to begin shooting this summer, and with Jeremy Renner recently taking to Instagram to confirm that he's started training for his return as Clint Barton, Marvel Studios needs to find their Kate Bishop sooner rather than later. Well, following reports that they've started meeting with other actresses, we now have an update on the situation.

While Steinfeld remains the studio's top choice to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Hawkeye, it does indeed appear as if they've started looking at other possibilities for the role.

However, there's said to be an ongoing effort behind the scenes to sort something out with the Bumblebee star, even if it means potentially casting her in a different role somewhere down the line. Clearly, the two sides are keen to work together, and providing her deal with Apple TV can be figured out, then Steinfeld could still join Renner in this Disney+ series.

Over the years, Marvel Studios has proved that they have an eye for casting, so regardless of who suits up as Hawkeye here, fans will probably end up being happy.

Of course, it may be hard not to think about how great Steinfeld would have been...

@lvcl - Considering they've made it very clear this is based on the Fraction run, you should really probably adjust your expectations. (And also not present your personal opinions and wishes as the representation of fandom as a whole)

@SerKurtWagner -

Considering that Disney+ is not a free service I have right to ask for all my expectations.

I consider myself a Hawkeye comic book fan and as many other fans we want the same. So I can express my opninion in plural.

We don´t want a TV serie about THE DAUGHTER OF HAWKEYE with the label HAWKEYE.

If Disney managers belive that fans are going to follow all that they produce are wrong. They should listen to us.

1) Stop saying “we” when you mean “me”

2) Stop complaining about a character you know nothing about. Kate is not Clint’s daughter.

3) Fraction’s run is inarguably the fan favorite take on Hawkeye. It makes perfect sense that would be the focus. So if you have issues with this, take it up with the fans.

I would hate it if two media companies couldn't sort out something as silly as this. It's not like Steinfeld's two roles would even be in direct competition with each other. It's an archer on a superhero show on one side and Emily Dickenson on the other, for crying out loud.

@Spock0Clock - Apparently it's on her agent or something. He got her a contract with Apple TV that doesn't allow her to do other stuff with a competing studio.

@Spock0Clock - tell that to Sony and marvel about spider man

@cyclopsprime - But that's a character and marketing and profit sharing. Ultimately you can own a fictional character.

But Steinfeld is a human being. If she wants to take a role (and it's something that doesn't affect her preexisting schedule), it's just crazy to me that someone would exercise that kind of ownership of her time/face/name.

Like I said, this isn't like Marvel preventing RDJ from simultaneously being Iron Man and Batman or something, where there is at least a reasonable case to be made that it could confuse audiences and dilute the brand. If anything, Apple would probably get more people interested in seeing Steinfeld play Dickenson if they watched her as Hawkeye and wanted to see more.

On one hand I would love Hailee Steinfeld more than anything, but on the other hand I don't think they should drag their feet because of this.
