HAWKEYE's First Episode Reportedly Drew A Smaller Audience On Disney+ Than Previous MCU Shows

The first two episodes of Hawkeye were superb, but it seems the archer's story didn't initially generate quite as much interest as MCU TV shows on Disney+ like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Loki.

According to Deadline, the first episode of Hawkeye on Disney+ drew an estimated 1.5 million U.S. households over the Wednesday to Sunday Thanksgiving holiday, with 1.3 million people then choosing to watch the second instalment as well. These figures come from Samba TV and are based on 3 million households (meaning these are far from "official" viewing figures).

What's interesting about these viewership numbers, however, is how much they differ from some of Marvel Studios' other live-action TV shows on the streaming service.

2.5 million homes reportedly tuned into Loki over five days when that launched, with 1.9 million counted for the finale. Hawkeye also ranks behind The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (1.8 million) and WandaVision's (1.6 million) three-day totals. What does this mean? Well, while anticipation might not have been as high for the series, there's a lot to take into account with this data.

For starters, 1/3 of Disney+'s 118.1 million subscribers are U.S.-based, so 3 million households are a very small sampling. As noted, it was also Thanksgiving weekend, so that could mean people were busy with their families. Ultimately, it does seem like there was a little less interest in Hawkeye, but what ultimately matters is the show's longtime performance on the streaming platform and how much interest it drives to the service in terms of keeping and gaining subscribers.

In our review, we said"Marvel Studios is once again sleigh-in' it with Hawkeye, an unmissable Christmastime team-up bringing holiday cheer to the MCU with top tier storytelling delivered in the Mighty Marvel Manner and a bold, brilliant new hero in Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop."

Did you watch Hawkeye when it hit Disney+ last week?

That's a damn shame. It's easily up there as one of the best disney plus shows. Its certainly better than what if and falcon and winter soldier. We will see if it's better than Loki yet.

@mousmnwltr - Same. I was at my parents' house on Wednesday and I definitely wasn't going to be able to convince them to watch two episodes of the Hawkeye show. If it ain't 3 straight hours of knock-off House Hunters, they ain't interested.

Big shame. So far I found this to be the best of the disney+ shows. Hopefully word of mouth and the demand for Christmas content will draw more people in.

I just don't think the general audience cares for Hawkeye. Which is a shame, because the first two episodes were strong. Hopefully there will be an uptick in viewers as the episode count grows with positive word of mouth.
