HAWKEYE's Working Title Has Been Revealed And It Pays Homage To A Beloved Comic Book Run

Hawkeye is still in the works for Disney+, and a working title for the series has now been revealed which may provide some clues about what we can expect from the Marvel Studios project. Check it out...

While it was previously reported that Hawkeye was set to begin production this September, we don't know how much Marvel Studios' plans have now changed, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic causing so much disruption to upcoming productions. As a result, it's impossible to say when the series will begin shooting, but the Disney+ TV show does now have a working title.

According to Murphy's Multiverse, that is "Anchor Point," and while it may not have much meaning on the surface, it could be familiar to fans of the comic books.

Kelly Thompson's Hawkeye run - which primarily focused on Kate Bishop - received widespread critical acclaim, and the first six issues can be found in a trade paperback called, you guessed it, "Anchor Point." It's possible that this is just a coincidence, but could also be a sign that Thompson's work will be influenced by the Marvel Comics story arc.

What does that tell us about Hawkeye? Well, during the writer's run, Kate was a freelance private investigator, so it's feasible that she'll have a similar role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Heck, it's even possible that she's hired by someone to find Ronin for everything he did between the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

What do you guys think?

I wonder how they will transition Clint to NYC, which I think is vital for the series. I mean, I guess it could work without the location change but it would be nice to have it set there.

Thompson's run was terrible and killed all the momentum Fraction and Lemire built up. You say its critically acclaimed, but I seem to recall it being canceled quickly for poor sales.

Would it be too much of a slap in the face of Endgame if Hawkeye is just a single father at the start of this show? And we get our Fraction run status quo that way? 5 years of being psychopathic widow might sour the relationship.

@ElJefe - that’s right! And where’s Mocking Bird? Still waiting for them to hook up like in the original limited series.

At least Clit to Kate is an organic transition. That's a big problem people often have with replacement characters.
It often feels like the original gets thrown under the bus.
This however is one of the most natural passing of the tourch in recent Marvel comics.

@shadowspider9 - I could see it feeling organic if Kate was his daughter. But we've never met her before. In the comics it worked because Clint was dead. But how will they make it feel organic in the MCU, especially if they culture-cancel Renner?

@rabid - I thought they retconed it that Kate was his daughter in the MCU?
Isn't that the whole point of the scene in Infinity War where he's teaching his daughter how to shoot.
