Well, I have completed Iron fist I would have to say it is not as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoyed it even though some critics tore it apart for being boring. I think they were probably expecting a fight scene every second and that is not the case with this show. At some points the show is a slow burner but it makes up for that with some good character drama with supporting characters that are quite likeable for the most part.
If I was to give the biggest praise for this show it would have to be the three characters Ward, Coleen and Danny. When it comes to being the main character of the show Finn jones delivers a likeability factor and childlike nature at point to Danny Rand and he does bring the right emotional range for intense scenes when need be. I liked the way Coleen and Danny’s relationship didn’t feel too fake and the actors had great chemistry which made it feel believable. Coleen’s fight scenes were handled great and you could tell that the actress Jessica Henwick trained hard for those sequences. Now when it comes to Ward Meachum the actor Tom Pelphrey brings some quality acting in emotional scenes and is very complex for the most part.
Now this show is not perfect and its problem do reside in the pacing of the show and some very stupid character decisions towards the last half of the show which do baffle me considering the quick change of heart with some characters I will not mention due to that information containing spoilers. But also, the fight scenes in the first two episodes were poorly directed and filmed with cuts every two seconds so I could barely make out what was going on, even though that does improve it still frustrated me. I also find the score unbearable generic at most parts sounding like stock music making want to skip the intro at every cost, which is disappointing considering the work put into Daredevil and Luke Cage’s scores. However, I did like the addition of hip hop artists like Anderson Paak and Outkast.
Overall I did enjoy this show despite its noticeable flaws, there are still some very good moments within this show that I can’t just call it a bad show. I wouldn’t recommend this for everyone but if you have some free time it’s worth checking it out.
