IRON FIST Star Finn Jones Blames Donald Trump For Negative Reaction To Netflix Series

You may think that Finn Jones has lost the plot based on the headline above, but the Iron Fist star makes some valid points here about why critics have so savagely attacked the Danny Rand character...

While Iron Fist isn't exactly a critical flop, the majority of reviews have not been kind. Most of the negativity has been aimed squarely at Danny Rand and the fact he's been "whitewashed" (a complaint which makes no sense given the hero's comic book origins). However, regardless of the reasons, it's become apparent that a lot of people simply aren't that keen on the billionaire philanthropist.

Well, star Finn Jones offered an explanation for that during a recent interview with Radio Times when he said that he believes at least some of the reviews can be blamed on US President Donald Trump.

"I think the world has changed a lot since we were filming that television show. I’m playing a white American billionaire superhero, at a time when the white American billionaire archetype is public enemy number one, especially in the US. We filmed the show way before Trump’s election, and I think it’s very interesting to see how that perception, now that Trump’s in power, how it makes it very difficult to root for someone coming from white privilege, when that archetype is public enemy number one. Danny is a fish out of water, and you don’t really understand where he’s coming from. But I think there’s also a level of intrigue. People need to see the full series–’Iron Fist’ doesn’t end until the last episode of ‘Defenders.’ He really goes on a journey of self-discovery, and grows into the role. It’s paced out; it’s a long journey."

It's certainly an interesting theory, but one it's hard to say for sure is right or not. Given what's happening in America right now, it's easy enough to understand why some might not be overly keen on seeing someone like Danny regain their riches and set out to save the world, but then again, isn't that what most people want a billionaire to be rather than those who so often dominate the headlines?

As always, feel free to share your thoughts on the remarks in the comments section down below.
