Is Marvel Developing A THUNDERBOLTS TV Series For Netflix?

It would make sense though, given the enormously positive response to the first glimpse of Warner Bros.' supervillian team-up flick, Suicide Squad.

Salt at the ready! The Hashtag Show (via MCU Exchange) reckon Marvel is developing a TV show based on The Thunderbolts - a team made up mainly of villainous characters, similar to DC's Suicide Squad. It's just been announced that Marvel has ongoing plans for its Netflix output, and that we can expect a new show "every six months". Those initial plans obviously revolve around multiple seasons for the 5 shows we know about (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders), but surely they'll be throwing something new into the mix at some point?

It's worth noting that there are many potential team members that have already been introduced in various movies and TV shows (such as Mr. Hyde, Crossbones, Absorbing Man, Grant Ward), and more we know are set to debut (like Baron Zemo, The Punisher, Elektra, members of The Inhumans). So yes, it's entirety plausible that Marvel and Netflix are considering The Thunderbolts for a potential new series, but we have to look at the source here.

The Hashtag Show posted some early Avengers: Age Of Ultron rumors that turned out to be on point, but their last claim that Matthew McConaughey was in the running to play Norman Osborn in the Spider-Man reboot was never confirmed. It may be the case, but until we know one way or the other, don't put too much stock in this just yet.

Thoughts?

Wasn't James Gunn wanting to do this? Marvel promised him if GOTG was succesuful he would have gotten the chance to direct this.

I think it's a little early for Marvel to be bringing the Thunderbolts to Netflix but if this is true and in the works, I'm completely down for this.

TV series? THUNDERBOLTS deserved a film, not a tv series, but in the hands of Disney that's never going to happen.

I thikn we are still a few good movie villains away from the Thunderbolts. It would be incredibly awesome though.

Awesome. Disney needs to find a way to resurrect some of their villains. It's hard to imagine the general public won't see this as a Suicide Squad ripoff though.

Only Thunderbolts I want is original Thunderbolts: Villains pretending to be heroes in order to take over the world. Justice like Lightning!

@Matador- Dude..... They had Sticky Fingas star as Blade, WTF!

I still rather see another go at it than the fake Suicide Squad.

hmmm.... While id love a Thunderbolts series, I would want it with a small crew and lets keep it at the big guns from marvel... Punisher, Elektra, Red Hulk, Agent Venom and GhostRider... Maybe bring in Blade as an addition that wasn't part of the Thunderbolts.

In an interview with Screenrant , James Gunn was asked very specifically about Thunderbolts. And here was his suspiciously specific answer.

"Thunderbolts? I will tell you, one time I was saying to Kevin [Feige], we were sitting on set together on one of the days he visited and I said, ‘You know, I really want to make Thunderbolts,’ and he said, ‘James, if Guardians does well you’ll be able to do whatever you want so we’ll see what happens. I am totally for this I loved reading the Thunderbolts comics back in the day. When Songbird was leading the team with Mach V, Atlas, Fixer, Radioactive Man, Blizzard, etc.. those were some really good comics. They also don't have to be villains we have already seen how about the characters in the show are villains taken down by heroes in between movies. A TV show is a great way to introduce these characters and go into their back stories.

Def agree with most and would like to see one of my fav, Moon Knight, before this. Michael K Williams as bushmaster!!!

But t bolts would be awesome. Start it up as a show and then down the round they fight defenders in movie??? Maybe have the conflict be about which team is right, the one working for the government or the one who technically isn't???
