LOKI Star Richard E. Grant Wants To Return For Alligator Loki Team-Up And Shares Desire For A Muscle Suit

Richard E. Grant's Classic Loki has definitely left a lasting impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe after debuting in last Wednesday's episode Loki ("Journey Into Mystery"), and not just because he was decked out in the God of Mischief's comic accurate costume!

Talking to Collider, the actor was asked whether he knew about the green and yellow outfit before signing up to join the Disney+ series. "Yeah. They sent me the costume design with my face on it. It was the classic Loki of the Jack Kirby illustrations of the '60s and it was a fantastic muscle suit."

"As you can see, I'm born without any. When I got to Atlanta and I said, 'So where's the muscle suit that I get into before I get into the green tights?' They said, 'What muscle suit?' And I said, 'Well, like the drawings.' They said, 'No. We don't have one for you.' And I said, 'Well, I don't have any muscles to fill this out.' And they said, 'Ah, don't worry about that.' And I said, 'I do worry about that.' And I'm still worrying about that and I'm still grouching about it because I wanted those muscles."

As for whether he'd be open to reprising the role, Grant jokingly pitched a spinoff revolving around Classic Loki and his Alligator counterpart. "Classic old Loki with muscles and Alligator-dot-com, the subseries of the sub-sub-sub series. That's what I want. [Classic] Loki is the only one that can talk to him and understand him. It's a given. It's a scriptwriter's dream. Get it done."

In a separate interview with Entertainment Tonight, Grant elaborated on the possibility of returning to the MCU and admitted it could be a tough sell after the God of Mischief's heroic sacrifice.

"As you just said, everything's possible. But I think that's because his sacrifice is so huge and it's going out with such a bang, how do you top that if he had to come back? I have no idea. You know, it's not within my arena to do that. But I wouldn't say no, if asked. Put it that way."

It's certainly possible that Classic Loki created another convincing illusion to fool Alioth, but bringing him back from the dead could cheapen what proved to be an emotional, powerful conclusion to his story. It does feel like these Variants have more stories to tell, though, so perhaps we'll get a surprise in the Loki finale? That arrives on Disney+ tomorrow, so be sure to check back here for updates!

I think his appearance only worked better without a muscle suit. He looked so random and out of place that I did not expect him to go out the way he did.

Kinda wish he returns though, even if it's as another Loki (Godking Loki?). We still need someone at the end of time, and although I want it to be Casey, Miss Minutes in human form or even Mr. Alternity, another Loki makes the most sense.

I like Taika, but Kate Herron has done a great job. She and Richard E. Grant must work together again. So my idea is this.

"King Thor". A history of the multiverse.

@Repian - Would this be Hemsworth's last ride as Thor?

The dude is so game for anything, legend.

His Glorious Purpose moment was incredible. It's funny how this one-and-done character in a tv-series-spinfoff about a supporting-cast member in a 24-film franchise had such an impact. Amazing.

(Saying one-and-done assuming that he isn't making a surprise return in tomorrow's ep).

@TheManWithoutFear - now that you put it like that, it really is impressive what they've achieved

Darn I was kind of hoping he was He Who Remains. I mean, the whole, Loki is a survivor thing they keep coming back to was screaming that Loki was He. I assumed since they pushed the appearance of Grant so hard was that he was going to be revealed as He in the end. Guess not

He was great. Definitely think he deserves more time in the role.

I would not be opposed to his return, he did great and I'd love to see him in a more modern take on that Loki costume.
