In the comic books, Khonshu is the God of the Moon and one of the Marvel Universe's most powerful beings. Worshipped by the people of Ancient Egypt, he was unable to leave the extradimensional realm of Celestial Heliopolis (which is adjacent to Earth in the same way as Ta Lo), so would choose a champion who could be his avatar.
This was the "Moon Knight," with the latest person to hold that mantle obviously being Marc Spector. While the unhinged vigilante - who has multiple personalities - has often wondered whether the Khonshu who appears before him is even real, recent stories have suggested that the Moon God is the reason for Marc's dissociative identity disorder and very much communicating with him.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe appears to be heading in that direction with Moon Knight, and we've seen Khonshu stalking "Steven Grant" in a couple of previews for the series.
A still recently shared to Disney's press website confirms that the MCU's Khonshu will have a voice courtesy of a description that reads, "Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant and Khonshu (voiced by F. Murray Abraham) in Marvel Studios' MOON KNIGHT." This is the first time the Oscar-winner's involvement with the series has been mentioned, and is superb casting on Marvel Studios' part.
The actor has many credits to his name, including Lady and the Tramp, Homeland, and Inside Llewyn Davis. However, Abraham's career spans decades and we're sure you'll also remember him from movies like Amadeus and Scarface, as well as voiceover roles in Isle of Dogs and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
Moon Knight will premiere on Disney+ on March 30.
