MOON KNIGHT Was Set To Feature Cameo Appearances From "Three Or Four" Members Of The ETERNALS

We've heard Marvel Studios originally planned to include a couple of big cameos in Moon Knight to better link the series to the wider MCU, and Head Writer Jeremy Writer now confirms an Eternals connection.

Moon Knight featured no significant connections to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, leaving fans to wonder where the Disney+ series - and the character - fit into this world.

We can't help but think that Marc Spector will be a major player moving forward, but Head Writer Jeremy Slater tells The Direct that there were originally big plans to bring key characters from Eternals into Moon Knight. "I tried very hard to get the Eternals into the show, just because I’m buddies with Kumail Nanjiani," he revealed. "I want[ed] some Kingo."

"At one point, there was a flashback on the page that sort of showed one of Khonshu’s Avatars back in ancient Egypt, sort of dealing with Ammit being locked away, and Alexander the Great, and all of that stuff," he continued. "You sort of saw this Avatar team-up with the Eternals. It was a really fun scene, but again, it was so massively expensive to recreate Ancient Egypt, to sort of bring in 3 or 4 of the Eternals to have this big action sequence."

Slater went on to explain that it would have been a cold open to one of Moon Knight's episodes, but acknowledged that the expense of a scene like that would have hurt the show as a whole.

"That was the cameo I had to cut. It hurt, but it was also the right thing to do for the show, and I think everyone sort of collectively agreed," the writer noted. "There’s plenty of time in the future to team this guy up with other characters in the MCU and start building these connections; let's not force something just because the other shows have all had it."

Moon Knight was the perfect opportunity to showcase the Eternals given their role in the MCU's history, but it's easy enough to see why it didn't pan out. Fans were also surprised that there was no reference to Rama-Tut, a Kang the Conqueror Variant who once ruled over Egypt with an iron fist.

However, with production on so many of these Phase 4 movies and TV shows overlapping, it could be that there simply wasn't time to coordinate those type of references. It could always happen down the line, of course.

Do you wish the Eternals had appeared in Moon Knight?

Eh there was a reference to Rama Tut, and it's even been comfirmed by the director. The young guy who Marc holds over the edge of the cliff is wearing a coat with a Rama Tut logo on the back

At this point I would have take anything with more of the Moon knight character in action.

While I wasn’t clamoring for a massive MCU connection, it would have been nice to get the Eternals in there. After their divisive first outing it’s going to take more to really establish them in the MCU. This would have been a nice touch to get them some more screen time.

That said, this wouldn’t have changed much. Moon Knight deserved 2-3 more episodes after that complete rushed job at the end.

I still don’t understand what all these references would have done to improve the series (I loved it btw) I feel like everyone is starting to get hung up on references and cameos for some weird reason

@ShimmyShimmyYA - while I'm not saying I have an issue with the lack of connectivity, this is the mcu. Those references and cameos have been used to create stories later on, and is the reason why so many individual properties get the attention it does for the greater story.

Yeah, that sounds like that would have eaten up half the show’s budget in one ten minute scene.

Didn’t need it but would’ve been cool to see ancient MK

It’s starting to seem more and more likely that Moon Knight had budget issues. That would explain the lack of Moon Knight in his own show. They should’ve given him a practical suit instead of him being totally CGI.
And before anybody says “Disney has all the money in the world”, Disney is still a business and they still have budget constraints. Lets not forget that they spent billions acquiring Fox and that was no drop in the bucket, they’re still in recovery mode from that.

I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say that we would all like to just forget that the live-action MCU version of the Eternals even exists.

@Captainhulk1 - Nope, pretty sure you are speaking for yourself.

Shame, still we got a Moon Knight cameo so all wasn't lost.

Glad to see Marvel are determined to sprinkle the Eternals throughout time in different ways. I'm almost certain they are gonna pop up in Love and Thunder in some capacity

That said, I'm happy with MK not having any overt MCU ties. While the connectivity is cool, part of what makes this new phase exciting is having no real sense of how any of this stuff fits together. When MK inevitably pops up in something else it'll feel all the better with the old Phase 1 feeling of characters with zero connection interacting at random
