Variety is reporting that 4x Primetime Emmy-nominated actress Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones; Solo: A Star Wars Story) has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' upcoming Secret Invasion.
Unfortunately, details on her leading role are being kept tightly under wraps somewhere in Kevin Feige's office.
She joins an all-star cast that features Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Spider-Man: Far From Home; Avengers: Endgame) as Nick Fury, Primetime Emmy-winner Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline; Captain Marvel) as Talos, Kingsley Ben-Adir (The OA; Peaky Blinders) as the lead villain, and Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman (The Father; The Favourite) in an undisclosed role.
A director hasn't been set just yet, but Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot; Copper) is serving as head writer on the project.
Clarke is, of course, best known for her fiery portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's blockbuster fantasy drama Game of Thrones, but she's also appeared in the likes of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Terminator: Genisys, Me Before You, and Last Christmas.
Clarke is the latest Thrones alum to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following her former on-screen nephew/lover Kit Harington and Richard Madden, who will both appear in Chloe Zhao's Eternals this November as Dane Whitman and Ikaris, respectively.
With casting now fully underway, filming on the six-episode miniseries is expected to begin sometime this fall in the United Kingdom and Europe, presumably setting the stage for a 2022 debut on Disney+.
