Despite the all-star talent of Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke, Ben Mendelsohn, and Don Cheadle, Marvel's Secret Invasion might be one of the MCU's biggest failures. It could be argued that its failure to garner interest among fans directly contributed to the poor box office performance of The Marvels.
While promoting his upcoming role in Bob Marley: One Love, actor Kingsley Ben-Adir reflected back on Secret Invasion and revealed that once he wraps up a project, his philosophy is that his job is done and how a project resonates with fans is something for the creative team and producers to worry about.
"I feel like the experience of making a movie is why I do my work, you know. Once we wrap, it's done. It's over to you guys and over to them. You know, my job is to come in and find a psychological point of view on the character and try and figure out a journey for the story. And then after that, it's really--you take your high as the same way you take your lows."
Wrapping up the interview, Ben-Adir did move on to a more positive subject, reflecting on the recent upward tick of his career, which has seen the British actor co-star in Secret Invasion, Barbie, and Bob Marley: One Love.
“Well, ‘Secret Invasion’ was exploring a character who wanted to see everyone burn and suffer. Ken, I feel, didn’t really have a brain; he didn’t really have any thoughts of his own. His only purpose in life was to live for [Ryan Gosling’s] Ken. There’s something quite simple about that. And it was very much about Slapstick and physical comedy. Bob [Marley’s] a musical artist, and he’s one of the most loved people on the planet, but I’m not a musician. But they’re all very different."
The most important character coming out of Secret Invasion is Emilia Clarke's G'iah, who has essentially become the MCU's first Super Skrull.
With access to the powers of Captain Marvel, Ghost, Hulk, Black Panther, Captain America, the Winter Soldier, the Black Order, Drax, Gamora, Groot, Mantis, Korg, Thor, Valkyrie, Abomination, Frost Beast, Extremis and the Chitauri, G'iah is neigh unstoppable.
