SECRET INVASION: Disney Says Regé-Jean Page Is NOT In The Series Despite Naming Him In Recent Press Release

When Disney sent out a press release following Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at Comic-Con, Regé-Jean Page was listed alongside Secret Invasion's cast members. Now, though, they claim that was an error!

Saturday night was a busy one for news, and while we shared the official synopses for various Phase 4 projects with you, there was one detail we overlooked with Secret Wars

In a press release sent out shortly after Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation concluded, it was noted that, "'Secret Invasion' stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos - characters who first met in 'Captain Marvel.' They are joined by Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman and Regé-Jean Page."

Does one of those names stand out to you?

Regé-Jean Page is Bridgerton's breakout star, and an actor who has lined up a number of noteworthy roles since leaving the Netflix series (including The Gray Man and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves). What we didn't know was that Page had booked an MCU role in this upcoming Disney+ series.

Bizarrely, Disney has now reached out to TV Line to claim that he was mentioned in that cast list due to a "typographical error." That's one hell of an error, and we can't quite figure out how his name would be randomly added to Secret Invasion's list of confirmed cast members.

The crossover event series showcases a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years, and we can't help but wonder whether Page's involvement was meant to be a surprise. After all, this is the equivalent of Marvel Studios mentioning Harry Styles in a cast list prior to the Eternals' release or Charlize Theron being named as part of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' ensemble before the sequel landed in theaters.

Only time will tell whether this really was an error, but we're not buying what Disney is selling with this denial! It's not like Secret Invasion's cast includes anyone with a similar name to Regé-Jean Page.

Now we know the show will be the second Marvel Studios project heading our way next year, something tells us more details will be revealed during September's Disney+ Day.

Who do you think Page could play in the MCU if he's appearing in Secret Invasion?

@Forthas - No...

He's an average actor. Massive downgrade.

@Kumkani - Any suggestions?

@Forthas - My top choices are Trevante Rhodes,Y'lan Noel ,Kofi Siriboe,or depending on his AQUAMAN 2 obligations and any other future possibly DC film appearances Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

@Forthas - The ideal choice would've been Mahershala Ali, who has the appropriate gravitas and acting ability to carry on the role. But he's Blade.

The second best choice would've been Aldis Hodge, who has the look and the charisma to pull it off. But he's over at DC has Hawkman.

My choice would be Atandwa Kani, who played the younger version of T'Chaka and is John Kani's son, who played the older version of T'Chaka.

Why it works:

1. He's South African so the accent, language and attitude would be completely natural to him. This would mean he would be doing less 'acting' than another American/Non-African actor trying to learn the accent and language and could risk acting like Chadwick Boseman acting as T'Challa, if you understand what I mean.

2. He has some familiarity with the cast and Ryan Coogler, which I think would make the adjustment for them a little bit easier.

3. Because he's relatively unknown, it may actually lessen the pressure and allow him to focus in on the role with less preconceived notions.

4. He's literally T'Chaka's son.

Y'Lan Noel, Trevante Rhoades, Kofi Siriboe, John David Washington, etc. Whenever I see these names, I just get the feeling someone googled "Popular Young Black Actors 2022" and copied the first list they found without thinking if any of them have the prestige and acting ability that is required for a role like this, which Chadwick Boseman had.
Atandwa Kani doesn't either in fairness, but he has a lot more advantages that the others do.

@Kumkani - But you just stated that he already appeared as another character in Black Panther. Wouldn't that be akward and confusing?

@HAUSMAN01
@Kumkani

My thoughts on some of the people mentioned. I am not familiar with the acting ability of most of the people on here other than Washington and Hodge so I will assume they are all capable.

Y'Lan Noel - I think he might be a solid choice

Trevante Rhoades - I like him but there is something about him that makes me think of someone raised in the hood as opposed to a raised in a royal household. Mayybe I am typecasting him becuase of his turn in Moonlight but I just don't see it.

Kofi Siriboe - ...would also be a solid choice

John David Washington - I think he is too big a star for this role and it would overshadow the character of T'Challa

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II - He also does not have a regal look to me. He has more of a "wild eyed" out of control look. I would cast him as a villian.

Aldis Hodge - I think would be an excellent choice. Although, one of the things I like to see in casting is for heroes to look less intimidating than villians. When compared to someone (lets say Micheal B Jordon) visually it would seem like Hodge would kick his ass.

Atandwa Kani - I think he would probably have been the best choice but for the fact that he had a role in Black Panther. It would seem a bit odd to have him appear now as T'Challa. It invites confusion. What if they needed to do a flash back of a young T'Chaka...then the filmakers would be stuck.

Regé-Jean Page - What I like about him is that he looks like someone who was pampered and comes from royalty. He seems like the kind of person who has to prove himself to others all the time because he looks a bit soft. That would work narratively since Black Panther is always being challenged for the throne.

@Forthas - My only pushback on Page is he isn't dark skin enough and anyone in the black community will back me on us needing a dark skin actor.I think he'd be a good young Blue Marvel though or speaking of royalty rebooted BLACK BOLT. Now as for Kani I agree with you & I'm not finna read that paragraph whatever his name wrote to defend that casting it would just be confusing.Anyways the 2 you did co-sign in Kofi & Noel would be solid choices.Speaking about Yahya Abdul-Mateen II being a villian well he is already one as BLACK MANTA for DC but if he were to play a villian for the MCU I can see him as one of the KANG variants ,Apocalypse ,or Mr. Sinister

That's what a Skrull would want you to think.

Either this is some kind of misdirection or Marvel ends up casting him for something due to their cock up.

Win win either way. He's been doing some good work in the bits I've seen him in. He was despicable in Gray Man, which was the intention.

I think RJP will be in a future Marvel project, but just not this one. Think it would be cool to see him as Doom for some reason, so maybe Wakanda Forever?

Sure, Marvel, whatever. RJP's not in this show, the Russos aren't directing A:SW, I didn't cheat on my taxes last year, my wife's not having an affair with Ted in Accounting, that body was already in my basement hen I got home from work, blah blah blah. We're not buying it. Someone get Ruffalo or Holland on the phone. They'll spill the beans.
