SECRET INVASION: Emilia Clarke's Role In The Show Revealed And It's An Unexpected Surprise - SPOILERS

There's been a lot of speculation about who Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke will play in Secret Invasion, no great surprise when the actress is one of the most exciting additions to the MCU for some time. Fans are hoping she's here for the long haul, though her role could just as easily be a one-and-done in this increasingly busy Multiverse Saga.

We've previously heard that Clarke will play a Skrull called G'iah, but new evidence now suggests she's set to star as a much bigger name from the comic books.

The official Secret Invasion account on Tenor posted a GIF featuring Clarke's character, and the file is named "Its The Beginning Abigail Brand GIF." As a result, all signs now point to the Daenerys Targaryen actress playing that hero, a character who is vastly more important than a random shape-shifter.

In the comic books, Abigal Brand is the Director of S.W.O.R.D., a group we've already spent time with in WandaVision. There was no mention of her there, but there's a chance Secret Invasion will serve as an origin story of sorts for the character (with her eventually taking charge of the group after helping Nick Fury stop the invaders).

There's always a chance this is a misdirect or mistake, so it's probably best not to get too excited just yet.

However, if Abigail Brand is ever going to join the MCU, we'd like to think it would be in this show. Given her relationship with the X-Men, it's feasible that the character could essentially become the new Fury, serving as a liaison to Earth's Mightiest Heroes during any and all future cosmic adventures.

We'll have to wait and see, but more details about the show are likely to be revealed before the year is up.

Secret Invasion is set to be released on Disney+ in early 2023.

Makes sense seeing as SWORD has been introduced. She basically is SWORD.

I feel like it was always going to be Brand or a Skrull. Not unexpected. Question is, will she be a mutant?

I have absolutely zero interest in SWORD/SHIELD shenanigans. But the Secret Invasion teaser was good.

Good. Could be a role like Coulson only for the cosmic MCU.

Brand was literally the most popular guess as soon as Clarke's casting was announced, so this is nowhere near as surprising, but it is still pleasant nonetheless.

@DrReedRichards - Not even a little unexpected or surprising, but Josh gotta be Wilding! Wait until android Coulson turns up at her side. Josh gonna lose his mind.

@seakhan -

As an avid SHIELD fan, nothing would make me happier than to see Fitz (or any of the main cast) pop up out of nowhere and send all those "Not canon!" nay-sayers for a loop.

Man, I love Abigail Brand! This show keeps sounding better and better.

I hope in the future they explore her relationship with Beast.

Unexpected surprise? I thought everbody was expecting it. Atleast I was (while I also expect her to be a Skrull still)

Abigail Brand was co-created by Joss Whedon. How ironic would it have been if he was still working at Marvel Studios and got a chance to adapt his own character.

A nefarious faction trying to harvest the powers to create a super-skrull in order to establish dominance? Count me in

OT, but still Marvel-related (and even a bit X-Men-related):

Actor Michael Kopsa has passed away.

Notable Marvel roles include Beast on X-Men: Evolution, the Controller on Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Lavin Skee in the animated film adaptation of Planet Hulk, and Ned Cecil in the 2005 Fantastic Four film.

Am I the only one who is losing interest in MCU flicks? Even canceled D+.

@lawndart - Certainly not the only one, but definitely in the minority.

It’s really nice to see Marvel slowly introducing the mutants- if that is in fact the direction that they’re taking the character in.
