Secret Invasion started with a bang but has struggled to continue that momentum in the weeks which followed. We were certainly treated to a few surprises but after pretending to kill one character and then actually dispatching another, the series has proven somewhat divisive.
Unfortunately, the finale was probably the show's most disappointing instalment and not only hit a lot of familiar notes but left us with some big unanswered questions.
While we weren't asking for everything to be wrapped up in a neat bow, it feels like another MCU TV series in which Marvel Studios has failed to stick the landing. As for these lingering queries, we're unsure when or if they'll ever be addressed but have tried to better explain them for you!

5. What's Next For Gi'ah The Super-Skrull?
So, Gi'ah has gained the powers of nearly every superhero and supervillain imaginable, arguably making her the most powerful being in the entire MCU.
While it seems there's a limitation to how many abilities she can use at any one time (creating a level of vulnerability), even being able to blast into action Captain Marvel style makes her a true force to be reckoned with.
And now, she's one of Sonya Falsworth's spies.
She claims to want to make Earth safe for humans and Skrulls alike, with the plan being to fight the war that President Riston declared on aliens. Is that going to play out in a spin-off? Are we getting Secret Invasion season 2? Is Gi'ah the MCU's Super-Skrull, albeit a heroic version rather than an enemy of the Fantastic Four? We have absolutely no idea.
4. Is President Ritson A New MCU Villain?
Secret Invasion ends with U.S. President Ritson declaring war on every alien living on Earth. He comes across as borderline manic, perhaps no great surprise after he was manipulated by "Rhodey" and very nearly killed.
The show appears to set him up as a new MCU big bad, with his words resulting in vigilantes killing humans and Skrulls alike. However, we already know that General "Thunderbolt" Ross is this shared world's next Commander in Chief, confirming Fury is right when he says Ritson will only serve one term.
What's the point then?
Unless this is going to be revisited as a major plot point in Captain America: New World Order or Thunderbolts, we'd recommend Marvel Studios avoid delving too deeply into politics...
3. How Long Was Rhodey A Skrull?
The fact Rhodey is a Skrull is one of this show's biggest plot threads, and we were very pleased to see the imposter take a well-deserved bullet to the head.
What's baffling, though, is that the real Colonel Rhodes doesn't get a single line of dialogue. There are hints he's been replaced ever since Captain America: Civil War (he's wearing a hospital gown and struggles to walk), but if so, does it really matter?
Looking back at War Machine's MCU appearances since then, there's nothing to suggest he was a Skrull or acting out of character in any way. Unfortunately, we think any of the really good stuff will have happened off-camera, only to be referenced and likely a crucial part of Armor Wars.
That's probably going to include the Skrull Rhodey getting up to no good with Iron Man's tech and the real deal learning his oldest friend has died.
2. Where Did All That DNA Come From?
Yes, we were paying attention and are well aware that the DNA in The Harvest was, well, harvested from Avengers: Endgame's Battle of Earth.
If that's the case, though, then how did samples from Abomination and Ghost end up in there? Are we meant to believe they were also present for the battle? Remember, when Iron Man used the Infinity Gauntlet, he turned Thanos and his army to dust, so did their blood somehow remain?
It doesn't quite add up, and while Fury may have gathered samples from elsewhere, it would contradict what we know about The Harvest's origins (we suppose it's possible he acquired some of that DNA while in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. but again, the show said otherwise).
Whatever the case may be, the MCU just gained literally the most overpowered superhero ever.
1. Is The Invasion Over?
In the finale's closing moments, Fury tells Varra that the Kree have agreed to enter peace talks with the Skrulls. It seems they're finally willing to end their war with the shape-shifters, but we can't imagine that means they'll be any closer to getting their own home.
The Marvels might at least reference that, but what of the Skrulls left on Earth? Sonya Falsworth enters a warehouse which seems to contain thousands of kidnapped humans, and it feels like this invasion is far from over...even if Gravik's attempt to start World War III is.
Marvel Studios might have been anticipating a second season but based on the critical response and Bob Iger's recent comments, it now seems unlikely.
There are clearly still Skrulls left on our planet, and that will need to be addressed in the not-too-distant future.
