As Expected, THE GIFTED Has Been Canceled After Two Seasons Following The Disney/Fox Merger

Disney is planning to reboot the X-Men franchise, so it probably won't surprise you to learn that shortly after Legion was cancelled, the same fate has befallen The Gifted on FOX. Check it out...

After just two seasons on FOX, live-action X-Men TV series The Gifted is now coming to an end.

The now Disney-owned network has cancelled the show just over a month after the season two finale aired. That will now serve as a series finale and while a third batch of episodes was planned, everyone expected The Gifted to end once the Disney/Fox merger was complete, anyway, as Marvel Studios is obviously looking to reboot the franchise and doesn't want a TV show messing with those plans.

The Gifted was never really a ratings hit, either, as season two averaged less than two million viewers per episode. But it certainly had its fans, and they are bound to be disappointed with how things ended.

After all, it featured a cliffhanger ending which saw Reed Strucker die and the surprise return of Blink.

Now, that's never going to be resolved and The Gifted joins Legion as the second of two X-Men TV shows to be scrapped. With the MCU moving to Disney+, it seems like Jeph Loeb and Marvel Television's powers are rapidly fading and the entire division could soon be completely shut down.

Never had any interest in this show, and I never checked out an episode. Completely forgot about what would have happened following the merger. Maybe when I'm more interested in comic book TV I'll check it out.

@DnA -

I don't know how FOX managed to keep making mutants boring but they did a great job with it. while they had them.

Show should have been canceled after season one. It was stale and lackluster.

Honestly, I despised the FoX-Men universe. I thought most of the projects were either mediocre, dated, or dated and mediocre, but I feel for anyone who loved this universe.

I know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right, yet to fail nonetheless

crazy to think that 2019 got at very least one dc episode a week for the whole year ,(cw/dcu) and marvel keep getting its show canceled , we live in a strage world

@Krav - Well DC tv has always done better, in animation and live action. Sucks that Daredevil was cancelled though, the only Marvel netflix series that was great from begining to end

@dracula - well i don't know about that they got the essence of it for sure but i always felt like they forgot they were doing a super hero show , they needed filler episodes imo where he just saves random ppl a like vilain of the week kinda thing .. they went for dark and srory driven

I enjoyed season 1. Got maybe 6 or 7 episodes into season 2 and got too busy to keep up. Now that I know its canceled I don't think I care to finish it. It's a shame.

It’s a damn shame in that the Stepford Cuckoos were fantastic in it, but they were one of the very few compelling parts of it. Truthfully, if they hadn’t appeared in the last third of season one then I would have expected it to have been cancelled then.

I'll patiently wait for Lorna to show up in the movies (hopefully)
