THE GIFTED Showrunner Says Season 2 Will Move Away From Trask Industries; Teases A New Original Mutant

Another season of The Gifted will premiere next month, and showrunner Matt Nix has revealed some of the changes and new additions coming to Season 2, including a new original character. More past the jump.

Fox and Marvel Television's The Gifted is set to premiere on September 29, bringing together new and returning characters to deal with the growing conflict between the Mutant Underground and the Hellfire Club.

Of course, as we all know, the X-Men drama doesn't just highlight the strife between different groups of mutants, as it also explores the stories of several human characters. In Season 1, this included Reed and Caitlin Strucker, Sentinel Service's Jace Turner and Trask Industries' Doctor Campbell.

But while Turner and the Struckers will return for Season 2, showrunner Matt Nix told /Film that Trask Industries and its employees won't factor into the story of the upcoming season.

"This year we’re doing another sort of comic related organization so basically what we try to do is we break our stories. Then we figure out okay, what does this resonate with in the comics? So there’s a really interesting back and forth for us and the comics of like oh okay, now we need this. Then we’ll go to the comics and go, ‘If we pull this from the comics, what is it?’ Then that influences the story. It’s always a back and forth. This year it’s not Bolivar Trask but it’s another company."

However, that's not the only change coming to the series, as Nix also said more original mutants would debut. Specifically, he noted "a fun character called Twist" who will have a significant role in the plot. Not much else was revealed about Twist, but the showrunner did say she will appear in episode "four or five."

Fans who were hoping to see more characters from the comics appear in The Gifted probably won't be too excited to meet Twist, but it's still not the first time the show has introduced original characters, as major players like Eclipse and the Strucker children were created for the show.

I'm not that big of an X-Men fan (favorite is Iceman) but is Gifted worth the watch?

@Kevwebsz - yes, the show starts to really pick up about midway through the season and has pretty well done interpretations of mutants and their abilities (even the human characters)

The Strucker children are in the X-Men comics, Fenris have been around for decades.

These are different Strucker children than the comics. Iirc they are the great-grandchildren of the male half of the comic book Strucker of the Fenris pair. So, different, but only a bit.

I watched 4 or 5 episodes and lost interest.

i'm just happy they are using the comics as references. This to me makes the show that much better.
