Marvel has revealed a decent amount of content for The Punisher but there's been no mention of the show's premiere date. It's still expected to hit Netflix later this year but the online streaming service is really leaving it to the last minute to let fans know when they should start getting ready for this one (and take the entire day off work to watch it). However, we do now have a brand new synopsis!

It's not particularly long but it does shed some light on what direction The Punisher will take and points to Frank Castle
having become a known entity in New York City as a vigilante wiping out criminals.

In Marvel’s The Punisher, after exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.

Jon Bernthal was introduced as The Punisher in season two of Daredevil and while he was rumoured to appear in The Defenders, that never happened. Many fans believe Marvel dropped the ball on Frank in some respects so hopefully, the show is going to deliver a version of the character we can get behind.

@TheBigkahuna - Someone involved in the show (episode director, writer, ???) let it slip a few months back it comes in November. There was an article here I believe. But that has never been confirmed again since.

I believe there are some(small) amount of fans who feel marvel dropped the ball by not shoehorning Punisher into the Defenders which would've been cool but was totally unnessesary. In either event, nothing to see here in regards to that.

@Supercat6376 - I'm glad Punisher wasn't in Defenders. Its more in line with his comic character. While he does team up with people from time to time, Punisher is mostly a loner character that prefers working by himself.

Also, Punisher works best as a character when he is operating in his own little corner of the Marvel Universe fighting street level, non-powered enemies. All of his best stories leave out any of the super powered criminals.

He has a very specifoc mission. When hou start dragging him into battles with super powered criminals it becomes a bit ridiculous.

@CorndogBurglar - Exactly. There are just certain stories he fits into and certain ones where it just doesn't jell properly. I picture him patrolling those dark alleys that creep you out as you pass them coming home from late night out. loved seeing him in Dardevil S1. I thought they could've done a little more with him in that last fight scene but that is nit picking.

Bernthal said the show would explore the intricacies of the military industrial complex and how his time in the service shapes him and I'm all for it.

"The thing that stuck with me with the Punisher in that story was this idea of brotherhood,” Maurer told Task & Purpose. “What I was trying to get to with the story was to try to show that the Punisher’s world view was colored by his time in the service.” - Kevin Maurer, The Punisher (2014) Marvel Now

"The Punisher as a character is a bit of a Rorschach test in that as time has passed since his creation, we’ve gone through different cultural eras and through each of those the character has been reinterpreted to reflect the concerns of society,” said Conway, in reference to the end of the Vietnam War and the way many veterans were treated when they came home." -Gerry Conway

“If society feels what we are doing is justifiable, the respect for the military is high, if the society feels guilty or shamed in what we’re doing, we project that onto the military,” said Conway. “They are the recipients of our collective Id.” - Gerry Conway

Frank is a dark vision of the effect of social breakdown and when society fails you.

I didn't think they dropped the ball on Frank, not at all.
