Army of the Dead arrived on Netflix today, and we're sure you guys will have plenty to say about Zack Snyder's latest movie. While the streaming service is already working on a live-action prequel movie and anime series, the stage is definitely set for a sequel by the time all is said and done.

When the heist in the zombie-infested Las Vegas starts going wrong, we see Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) and Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) surrounded by Zeus and his followers. Dieter sacrifices himself to lock Vanderohe in the safe (which saves him from being eaten) and shortly after the nuclear bomb goes off, he emerges from the wreckage unscathed.

Now, we're not entirely sure how he didn't immediately drop dead from radiation poisoning, but it initially looks like Vanderohe might get a happy ending. He has a giant bag of cash, buys himself a private jet, and heads down to Mexico with a couple of beautiful airline stewardesses.

It's all too good to be true, though, and after rushing to the bathroom, he discovers that he's been bitten. As he clashed with Zeus, it's likely that Alpha Zombie the saw wielding badass was infected by. Because of that, Vanderohe is probably going to become an Aplha, and Mexico...well, it's not looking good for them! In a sequel, there will be a lot of interesting ideas Snyder could explore that tie into the real world...like America erecting a wall between the two countries!

The filmmaker never explains the inclusion of robot zombies in Army of the Dead or that weird theory about the characters being stuck in a time loop, and Netflix has yet to officially announce sequel plans.

In our review of the movie, we concluded by saying "Zack Snyder makes zombies cool again in Army of the Dead, but falls into bad habits along the way. Dave Bautista, however, steals the show, and the movie is fun, dumb, and wacky enough to make this a franchise we hope to sink our teeth into again."

The movie sucked

@RegularPoochie - disagree. Has its flaws for sure, but it was fun. Effects and gore were on point. Couple unique ideas. Great popcorn flick. I mean, it’s kinda stupid of anyone to have high expectations on ANY zombie movie. Are those really made for high expectations anyway?? No. But I realize this site has about 500 Siskel and Eberts that know everything. And God forbid you disagree with anyone. Lol. Pathetic. But anyway, ya I just got done and I’m looking forward to a sequel. And Bautista was pretty damn good. The guy has come a long way. Good for him!!

@dragon316 -
Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Requiem for a Dream, and Melancholia suck as popcorn flicks. They are, however, great movies.

@dragon316 - first off, you should have someone that can write proper English, proofread your shit. Not sure if you’re being an ass on purpose or attempting to talk shit??? I can’t really tell due to your writing. If you did not intend to come off that way, my apologies. But if you are talking shit and calling me a movie critic, you’re sadly mistaken. I’m FAR FROM A CRITIC. Nobody in life aspires to be a critic. So I definitely would never do that shit. I was simply giving my opinion, which people are entitled to like or dislike. I don’t mind one bit. What I do mind is little moronic keyboard warriors trying to talk some shit for no reason. Especially when I would bet my life on the fact that if I was physically standing in front of anyone on this site, they wouldn’t talk any kind of shit to my face. That’s how this place rolls.

Hopefully you just wrote something a little confusing but harmless. We shall see with your response.

Army of the Dead is pretty bad. I found the story to drawn out didn't need to be 2h 28m. Zombies movies have gotten pretty boring. Nothing new in this new one and story was pretty simple to follow.

2 Stars / 5 Stars

I found it funny how the JL theatrical cut got so much stick for including a random family that served no purpose, and yet here his Snyderness includes a random family that serves no purpose. Zacky boy must just be trolling everybody now.

Question:

Why do most of these movie internet sites feel the need to write articles "explaining" the endings? Are these films written so poorly that they have to be "explained"?

This doesn't sound right, so what am I missing?

Thank you.

I really liked the movie but I had 2 nitpicks, both related to the nuke at the end. One did they REALLY nuke the fridge in another movie? Even if that vault kept him alive he would have died basically instantly when he got out, and Kate wasn’t much further away she’s living like 3 more days MAX bc she’s definitely heavily irradiated lol. Other than that it was a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing more of this world bc the world building was great and I cared way more about where the zombies came from and what they could become than anything else

I watched about an hour but just didn't care for it. There wasn't a shirt sniffing scene or slow motion sausages flying at my screen so in some ways its an improvement over JL.

I wish that old school Zack would have made a continuation of Dawn of the Dead. It didn't need to be a sequel following the cast from the first film but another entry set within the same world would have been great.

Am I missing something? What Robots? The weird blue sparks and bits were from Aliens. It was an Alien Virus that turned Zeus.

@DENNISsystem - Ya know.....that kind of sense. Even the baby fetus was glowing with that blue electricity looking stuff until it died. That would make more sense than robot zombies out of nowhere.

actually really enjoyed it for what it is, didnt seem long to say its a snyder film, i dont particularly like the guy and think he is far too up his own ass and deffo see's himself as a messiah, but as for the movie itself i thought it was good, so much that once the credits rolled i put it on play again and enjoyed it just as much .

wasnt perfect some of the characters were horrible like the heli pilot, theo rossi's character were probably the 2 weak points, gore was good, zombies looked decent, set pieces were enjoyable.

were some urgh moments that i wont spoil for those have seen it and those cliche moron moments but thats expected, and at one point i was like they are literally ripping aliens off you could side by side vazquez , gorman , hicks, ripley etc.

but i cant shit on it just for being a snyder film which most seem to be doing just for the sake of it .

The biggest issue with this movie was its length and the ending. The ending felt so anti-climatic to me.

@SnideCut - agreed. Should've just ended with Van riding of in the sunset (and maybe show the bite in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment)

Also, 'zombie in a cape' describes Snyder's Superman to a tee lol

What really bothered me about this movie is if that team can get any weapon they need why didn’t they get silencers for their guns so they’re not so loud and attracting zombies. 🤷‍♂️
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 5/21/2021, 2:19 PM
@AnthonyVonGeek - I was bothered by them just taking regular guns and a few grenade launchers with them. Could've used a few rocket launchers

The way twitter was eating this movie up I was expecting a lot better. Dave Bautista did really well though. That man has come a long way.
