THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD: DC Studios Rumored To Be Eyeing Specific Type Of Actor For DCU's Batman

We've not had any updates on The Brave and the Bold for a while now, but a new rumour claims to reveal the age of the actors DC Studios is considering for the role of the DCU's Bruce Wayne. Check it out!

Superman is already in post-production but when it comes to plans for the DCU's Batman and Wonder Woman, we remain largely in the dark. James Gunn doesn't appear to be in any huge rush to fill those roles, and has instead been focused on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Lanterns in recent weeks.

The Flash director Andy Muschietti remains attached to direct The Brave and the Bold but his commitments to HBO's IT prequel, Welcome to Derry, have seemingly made the reboot less of a priority.

There's also the small matter of Matt Reeves' The Batman - Part II being on the way after The Penguin has received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. It should go without saying then that the pressure is on to cast the perfect Bruce Wayne for the DCU.

Scooper @MyTimeToShineH, who has been on a roll lately with DCU leaks, has today revealed, "[DC Studios] want to cast a middle-aged man to play the DCU Batman."

This isn't overly surprising because this Batman will be the father of a 10-year-old boy and someone who has protected Gotham City for dec-wait, this all sounds a bit Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, doesn't it?

When Zack Snyder was casting that movie, we learned early on he was searching for a middle-aged Bruce, explaining why names like Josh Brolin and Ben Affleck (who was eventually cast) being in the mix. Now, it seems the DCU is doing the same despite having a youthful Superman in 31-year-old David Coresnwet.

It's worth noting that some fans have already expressed concern over the age of many characters in this shared world, including Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler, 59), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion, 53), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi, 45). It seems the DCU will be full of experienced superheroes and a world with a pre-established history, much of which we won't get to see.

Talking at the beginning of 2023 about DC Studios' plans for The Brave and the Bold, Gunn said: "This is the introduction of the DCU's Batman. This is the story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman's actual son who we didn't know existed for the first eight to 10 years of his life. He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He's a little son of a bitch. He's my favorite Robin."

"It's based on the Grant Morrison comic book's run, which is one of my favorite Batman runs, and we are putting that all together right now."

His DC Studios co-CEO, Peter Safran, added, "And this is obviously a feature film, and it's going to feature other members of the extended 'Bat-family', just because we feel like they've been left out of the Batman stories in the theater for far too long."

As noted, The Brave and the Bold's story will revolve around Bruce Wayne training his son, Damian, as Robin, adapting elements from Morrison and Frank Quitely's critically acclaimed Batman and Robin

The Brave and The Bold still doesn't have a confirmed release date. Recently, it's been claimed Warner Bros. Discovery is mulling over the idea of making Robert Pattinson's Batman the DCU's Dark Knight.

Do they ever learn?

@TheUnworthyThor - No. Gunn is hellbent on repeating all the same mistakes as Snyder’s regime.

@TheyDont - You don’t need to be an “insider” to see what’s clear as day. You just have to take a look at his slate, and all the rumoured projects they’re working on.

@FireandBlood - im not sure why people are so against a experienced batman. i dont want anymore bat training montages and seeing Thomas and Martha shot again for the one millionth time. some of the best batman stories that are looked up to even today have a older Bruce Wayne. the difference between gunn's universe and snyder is night and day. snyders was dark while gunn's will be brighter and heroic it seems. im ready!! Alan Richtson is 41 and perfect for this role. he could be the biggest naturally built and imposing batman ever!!
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 10/10/2024, 10:08 AM
@supermanrex - Because a middle aged Batman very quickly becomes an old Batman after a few movies. This isn’t the comics. His age won’t be fixed at 41. In fact, he’ll be older than that by time they start shooting, even older by time the film releases, and then even older by time they shoot the next one. Before you know it, he’s 50, and now he’s not an experienced Batman, he’s old man Batman. That’s why, and it’s the exact same mistake Snyder made.

@FireandBlood - age in real life doesnt affect the movie world. Ricthson is a beast and stays in shape. his 50 will still look 40s, hell he looks early thirties now and not 41. i guarantee Ritchson's 50 will not look like your average joe's 50. you know these hollywood types dont age like normal people with all the resources at their disposal to stay in shape. look at Stallone! batman beyond bruce, the dark knight returns bruce are some of the most iconic and beloved interpretations of batman.

@supermanrex - Alan Ritchson absolutely does not look early 30s, stop this. He looks amazing but it's clear he's not as young as early 30s.

@DevilsDreams - this is Alan Richtson's role period. Dude is perfect Batman if you look at his Reacher performance. he is built like a [frick]ing brickhouse too. its time we got a naturally huge batman for once. no need for suit muschles.

Call me when they fire MooseSh!tty and rethink B&B.

@DocSpock - Read the source material it will be based on. its classic and loved in the comics community. Morrison's batman run is iconic.

Batman doesn’t have to be middle-aged. He could be in his mid 30s and it will work. He could have hooked up with Talia in his early 20s. in that age group, It will still give him enough time and experience To have been Batman for 15 years. But still be young enough to be superman’s contemporary..
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 10/10/2024, 8:55 AM
@ZiggyStarman - Exactly. This idea he has to be in his 40s to have a kid is ridiculous. There’s plenty of fathers that bore children in their 20s. That on top of the fact he’s a secret love child/test tube baby anyway.
TDKRnry88
TDKRnry88 - 10/10/2024, 9:23 AM
@ZiggyStarman - They could have him even be 37-38. If Damian is 10, then what's to say that on an earlier adventure featuring the Al Ghuls, a 27 year-old Bruce/Batman got involved in a love affair with Talia. Cut to 10 years later & here's Damian.
Steel86
Steel86 - 10/10/2024, 10:31 AM
@ZiggyStarman - True and them describing him as middle aged doesn't necessarily mean he'll be 40-50. Could just mean older and mature. And we have to remember there has to be a really good difference between Gunn's Batman and Matt's. Patterson is a year two young Batman.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 10/10/2024, 8:53 AM
If true then thats unspecific tbh since that could include actors from their mid to late 30’s to their 60’s…

My choice is still Brandon Sklenar (34) , he’s on the younger end but dude would do so well as both Bruce Wayne & Batman imo!!.

If Gunn tries to rush past the main JL lineup so he can get to the oddball characters he loves so much more that's gonna be a problem for me. Bruce, Hal, Diana, Barry, Clark, Arthur, J'onn...you can't have a DCU without them. I know obviously they're present, but I get the sense he's gonna use them as a vehicle to just focus on his favorites.

@DocSpock - It’s just a Batman that fights a load of goons in a flashy manner, like Snyder’s warehouse scene in BvS.

@FireandBlood -

Okay. I'm one of the last humans on Earth without a gaming system or console. Every few years I try a game on the PC. I am only now considering getting the last of us for PC.

TDKRnry88
TDKRnry88 - 10/10/2024, 9:26 AM
@FireandBlood - There's a bit more to the Arkham games than that 😆 And for as out there as BvS was, that warehouse scene will forever remain one of the best Batman scenes in film. I'll die on that hill.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 10/10/2024, 9:26 AM
@DocSpock - If you’re familiar with the comics, you’re not missing out. They’re good, but fans usually cite them as a desired influence when they’re not that familiar with the comics.

TDKRnry88 - 10/10/2024, 9:27 AM
@DocSpock - Yeah, I just saw that comment, then deleted mine. I believe the Arkham games are available for PC, but don't take my word for it. I played them on my PS5. Play 'em if you want.

I'm very familiar with the comics. I have read them since about 1965.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 10/10/2024, 9:40 AM
@TDKRnry88 - There is, sure. But the only reason people bring them up is for the combat system and to see that emulated on screen.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 10/10/2024, 9:41 AM
@DocSpock - Then you already know Batman beating a dozen goons is nothing new, and certainly nothing they need to look at a video game for.

I agree with that.

If they are going for someone like in their 40’s, I think Josh Hartnett could be good too…

Dudes been having a bit of a resurgence lately and is a good actor that I think could fit the role.

@TheVisionary25 - Nice pick but not his style. He's already turned Superman and Batman down in his younger years and he hasn't shown any sign of him changing his thinking on playing those types of roles.
