It sounds like David Fincher (Mank; Mindhunter) has found his next project, and it's bringing him back to Netflix.
According to multiple sources, the 2x Academy Award-nominated director will be returning to the streaming giant for The Killer, an adaptation of Alexis Nolent and Luc Jacamon's French noir graphic novel of the same name which follows a cold-blooded assassin who begins to develop a conscience, causing him to emotionally crack.
The move will reunite Fincher with screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker for the first time in nearly twenty-five years. The duo previously collaborated on Se7en, The Game, and Fight Club, with Walker writing the screenplay for the former and serving as an uncredited script doctor on the latter two.
The project has been in development for well over a decade and was originally set up at Paramount as a potential Brad Pitt (Bullet Train; Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood) vehicle, but with Netflix recently acquiring the rights, the film is now circling 2x Academy Award-nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class; X-Men: Days of Future Past) to star in the lead role.
Unlike the six-year gap between his last two film projects, Gone Girl and Mank, production on The Killer is expected to move forward relatively quickly, with Fincher reportedly planning on beginning principal photography in September.
