EXTRACTION Is Netflix's Biggest Original Movie EVER According To Officially Released Data

Netflix has shared new streaming data which confirms that the Joe Russo-penned Extraction is the most-watched original film to grace the service, likely cementing it as a franchise that's here to stay!

Extraction premiered on Netflix back in March, and came at a perfect time with movie theaters forced to close their doors in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Marvel Cinematic Universe stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave took charge of the jaw-dropping action scenes, and Joe Russo, who wrote the first film's screenplay, is now working on a sequel (or prequel).

It was previously reported that Extraction was on its way to becoming Netflix's biggest original film, and data shared by Bloomberg confirms it. Based on official numbers which show how many subscribers watched films during their first four weeks on the platform, Extraction easily leads the pack.

The top ten includes Extraction (99 million), Bird Box (89 million), Spenser Confidential (85 million), 6 Underground (83 million), Murder Mystery (73 million), The Irishman (64 million), Triple Frontier (63 million), The Wrong Missy (59 million), The Platform (56 million), and The Perfect Date (48 million).

This news should cement Extraction as a new franchise for Netflix, and assuming the sequel is well-received, chances are Chris Hemsworth will stick around as Tyler Rake for the foreseeable future.

With no Bourne and Daniel Craig's tenure as 007 nearing its end, the world needs a new action hero.

The Platform is one of the BEST FILMS Netflix has ever had. Blew me away. Surprised no one talked about it much.

@BlackBeltJones - people probably haven't given it a chance because they have to read subtitles...

@TheSnyderClunge - damn shame and probably the case with a lot of foreign films. I will say I know people who've given Parasite a chance and they were the type to never watch a foreign film.

Netflix SUCKS nice to have something finally worth watching. The Irishman was so bad I haven't even finished watching it.

@DoubleD - Slow? Yes. Excessive? Certainly. Lower-tier Marty? Maybe. I think it's mid-Tier personally (with a good editing, it could have been top-tier). But bad? I don't know how you make that case.

It's the best of the Netflix films by a million miles.

Chris Hemsworth has been searching for a popular role that doesn't involve carrying a hammer and so he settled on one where he carries a rake

I did not care for this movie. Didn't really like Old Guard either.

@L0RDbuckethead - Old Guard could've been better ift it's wasn't so generic and looking like the other thousand action movies that have been made recently. It even looked at parts like Bloodshot, aaaaaaaaanother generic action movie. Also, it didn't help that most of the backgrounds given on the movie were all infodumped instead of flashbacks or having a mythology around them.

That movie, as any Netflix one, except for The Irishman, is your typical mediocre Netflix joint, so I don't get how it had a score as big as the one it had on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fun fact about this list... Netflix counted someone as having watched each movie if they stayed for 2 minutes of it.

From Deadline: “The company has also recently adjusted its metric for what counts as a view, now counting any subscriber who watches any programming for at least two minutes as an official viewer.”

If thise 99 million views were cinema views at £/$5 a pop it would have made about £/$500 million. Not bad.
