During a recent Reddit AMA, famed scribe Neil Gaiman took to the internet to answer fan questions. Over the course of the two hours, The Sandman  Netflix adaptation inevitably came up, and Gaiman was able to share some information on the project that will be sure to make fans of the comic very happy.

The Sandman is the flagship title of DC Comic's Vertigo imprint, spanning 75 issues during its run, which began when the character was created in 1989 by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg. Several miniseries and prequels also spun-off from the title.

While there was initially a big-screen project in the works involving Joseph Gordan Levitt, that fell apart, leaving Netflix to announce earlier this year that they would be handling the title.

During the AMA, Gaimain was straightforward in saying that the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman would follow the same plot as the beloved comic, while also offering the information that most, if not all of the single-issue tales will be covered as well, which is something that is sure to bring excitement to many fans of the character.

The Netflix series will be developed, co-written, and executive produced by Allan Heinberg, who also serves as the series' showrunner. Gaiman and David S. Goyer will both executive produce and co-write the series.

No premiere date has currently been announced by Netflix for The Sandman, but expect more news in the near future.

Excellent, the first step is to get rid of David Goyer since he's not in the comic series either.

David S Goyer has his hands in every comic book adaptation that he can get his hands on and make "dark and gritty".

Still, even with as mixed a record as he has, I'd rather have him on a project than not. So long as he's not writing the finished script. I have said it many times, the guy is a great "story writer", but he can't write a script with actual believable dialogue. He's an ideas guy. Throw ideas around with the guy, jot some notes, but don't have him write the scripts.
