CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA: Netflix's RIVERDALE Companion Series Announces October Premiere Date

Netflix is conjuring up a spooky October release date for CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA's freshman debut. The series, which has already been renewed for season two, serves as a companion to RIVERDALE.

After gaining a ecstatic following on Netflix, Riverdale's viewership more than doubled due to the streaming service; so when The CW passed on a Sabrina companion series,  it became a no brainer for Netflix to pick it up. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which it came to be called, has already been renewed for a second season. The first season’s premiere date was announced Sunday morning.

During Netflix's Television Critics Association panel the streaming service made public the series' release date. Filling the Halloween void where Netflix delivered the latest season of Stranger Things, the studio has settled on October 26th for the Riverdale spinoff. The series, which won't be crossing over with Archie & the gang anytime soon, will be dropping all ten episodes of its freshman season that Friday.

In case you aren't on board yet, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will see Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka in the title role as she navigates her teenage life as a witch. Inspired by films like The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby, it will not share much tonally with the 1996 sitcom.

Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted in London this morning. (It's about midnight there, right now)

@L0RDbuckethead - Doesn’t look too impressed getting his pic taken. Understandable if it happened to be some random popping up and calling out your name.

It’s not a Riverdale spin-off if the characters haven’t interacted and aren’t connected. Its more like what Supergirl was to Arrow.

I will be checking this series out for sure when it drops, though I don’t really have any expectations for it. Also I’m not sure I even want it to connect to Riverdale, that show has a unique and interesting atmosphere on its own, allowing supernatural elements into that universe may feel a little jarring

@Armageddon26 - From what ive heard it is set in the same universe, but because of it being on netflix, it might be a while before they it crossovers with Riverdale, but who knows, as much as we wanted it, did anyone ever really think the Supergirl/Flash crossover would happen when Supergirl was on CBS, and it happened

I'm glad it's not connected too much to riverdale. Very excited.

@DeadCipher - From what ive heard its the same universe, but because Sabrina is on netflix, it probably wont crossover right away, but they are interested in doing crossovers. Also if you dont like Riverdale, why watch Sabrina, its the same creative team

@dracula - I never said i disliked riverdale. Season 2 is pretty okay. And i said "too much" meaning, it may be connected but not constantly referencing eachover.

And i give any show a chance. Not sure where you got i did not like riverdale.

What’s the over-under on the number of homosexual relationships in this?

I hope we eventually get to see her cousin, the Hawaiian Volcano goddess at some point.

Wait...I thought this was to be animated?

I don't mind if it's like Riverdale. Although I haven't started season two yet, every single one of them Riverdale girls are fine as hell. Veronica... lawdhammercy.

And the show ain't too shabby either. Lol

@rds130 - Season 2 is pretty good during the Hood arc. After that is seemingly rapped up the show lags around a bit as Archie flip-flops over bad decisions like we all expect Archie to do in this show until near the end where it finally picks up strong again.

@ScionStorm - Season 2 was good but not as good as season 1. had a good start, had a bit of a dip in quality during the middle, but recovered by the end

@doomsday619 - Rather than a third season for Luke Cage and Iron Fist, I'd like to see them do a season of Heroes for Hire with Luke, Danny, Colleen, and Misty. While I would love to see the Daughters of the Dragon get their own show, I dread the possibility of seeing two of the strongest elements of those shows get diverted and leaving us with just Luke or just Danny for a whole 13 episodes.

But what I'm really hoping we get soon is some organic crossovers. Having Cloak and Dagger's second season do a stint in NYC where they cross paths with Cage would be awesome. Or having the Agents of SHIELD show up in a Jessica Jones arc to... well, it's kind of hard to peg exactly what SHIELD does in either the movie or TV side at this point... but you get the point.

@Spock0Clock - That would be great love the little nods that Cloak and Dagger share the same timeline with Luke Cage, I know its supposed to be a shared universe but its the little things like this I love.
I would love a Crossover with SHIELD and someone like Daredevil, Jessica Jones or Iron Fist I am a huge SHIELD fan.
But I agree Daughters of the Dragon need to stay where they are and Heroes For Hire needs a spinoff show.

@doomsday619 - I say, introduce Daimon Hellstrom in season 3 of Jessica Jones. If this series is going to make a focus of terrible parents, the Son of Satan can 1up Trish and Jessica with frying colors. We can have Jessica cross paths with Daimon while working a strange case that turns out to be a demon possession case Daimon is also working on, or something like that. I always imagine a Hellstorm series as a cross between Supernatural, Buffy and Dresden Files.

I'm kinda happy it's by the same people but not directly connected. I don't like the idea of Supernatural aspects in the Riverdale universe, but the idea of a Riverdale toned show but a bit more graphic and with Supernatural aspects getting to be bloodier and bolder because it's on Netflix and not network television sounds AMAZING!

I'm DEFINITELY checking this out.
