Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Steve Carell (IrresistibleThe Morning Show) is returning to the world of comedy this summer with Space Force, an upcoming Netflix series he co-created with The Office creator and former boss Greg Daniels.

While the series may or may not have been inspired in part by the real-life United States Space Force, the similarities will presumably end there as the show will tell an original story of four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell), who, instead of getting the promotion he was hoping for, finds himself tasked with leading the newly formed sixth brand of the U.S. Armed Forces: Space Force.

While disappointed, he'll take the job seriously, moving with his wife (Lisa Kudrow) and daughter (Diana Silvers) to a remote base in Colorado where he, along with a colorful team of scientists and self-proclaimed "Spacemen," will follow the White House's direct orders to get American boots back on the moon as soon as possible, regaining total space dominance in the process.

In addition to the Carell as the headliner, the series will feature an all-star supporting cast consisting of John Malkovich (Billions; The New Pope), Diana Silvers (Booksmart; Ma), Tawny Newsome (BrockmireStar Trek: Lower Decks), Ben Schwartz (Sonic the HedgehogParks and Recreation), Lisa Kudrow (Friends; The Comeback), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon ValleyCrazy Rich Asians), Noah Emmerich (The AmericansWhite Collar), Alex Sparrow (UnReal; Sin City: A Dame to Kill For), Don Lake (Terminator 2: Judgment DayZootopia), Jessica St. Clair (Avenue 5; Playing House) and Fred Willard (Modern FamilyAnchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy).

The series will premiere, with its ten-episode first season, on Friday, May 29.

A decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance. From co-creators Carell and Greg Daniels (The Office), SPACE FORCE is a new kind of workplace comedy, where the stakes are sky high and the ambitions even higher. John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz also star, alongside co-stars Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake. Howard Klein/3Arts (The Office) serves as executive producer, with Daniels as showrunner.
Space Force features:
Steve Carell as General Mark R. Naird
John Malkovich as Dr. Adrian Mallory
Ben Schwartz as F. Tony Scarapiducci
Diana Silvers as Erin Naird
Tawny Newsome as Angela Ali
Jimmy O. Yang as Dr. Chan Kaifang
Alex Sparrow as Yuri "Bobby" Telatovich
Don Lake as Brad Gregory
Noah Emmerich as General Kick Grabaston
Fred Willard as Fred Naird
Jessica St. Clair as Kelly King
Lisa Kudrow as Maggie Naird

Space Force premieres May 29

@dracula - Imo it gets better each season until the last one which is just as good as previous ones but it really separates from the MCU at that point so it plateaus for me in that regard. Season 4 I think is the Ghost Rider one and I was pretty impressed with how well it worked

@HeavyMetal4Life - IIRC they teased the show uniform would be “Moon Camo”, camouflage of craters.

The look on Trump’s face when he announced the Space Force 😂 It was like a kid playing with his mates saying “THIS dinosaur has rocket launchers and LAVA breath, so there!” It was just missing the Pew Pew Pew!” 😂😂😂

@Tasmaniac - That's the same kinda thing a lot of people said when JFK talked about landing a man on the moon too.

@Feralwookiee - Yeah, cause Trump is like JFK. Sure.

@Feralwookiee -
JFK made a pronouncement to the nation as a rallying cry to its people that despite the shortcomings it had experienced in the space race that had been going on since WWII, the country’s determination and ingenuity would still prevail and national pride would be restored in the world stage.

dRUMPf, who couldn’t be bothered to be corrected that the US Air Force WORKS in space (even has a Space Command), made a narcissistic decision out of nowhere, just to satisfy some idiotic childish whim.

so, apples and kumquat. but do keep slinging that asinine “whataboutisms.”

@PhilWillKIll - No. And that wasn't the point of my post. The point is, from some people's PERSPECTIVE JFk's plans for the space program was considered to be and overreach and childish science fiction etc. Again, it's all about perspective. Personally, I have no political horse in the race.

@Feralwookiee - So not at all related that it's astounding that you'd even post that.

No series can be as outlandish as the entire idea of Space Force, so there's that.

@Kozmik - We've had a space force since 1982. This new one is just funded independently of the Air Force.

@rabid - God, I remember the Star Wars program. Wonder if Pence is going to pull THAT out of mothballs...

@UltimaRex - I hope so! I want to see an orbital rail gun in my lifetime
Kozmik
Kozmik - 4/13/2020, 3:16 PM
@rabid - That's not the same thing at all. The Air Force handled space-based military applications, which was fine. This whole "Space Force" thing is dumb and wastes millions of dollars in promotion, branding and hierarchy (I assume they've created a new one for this nonsense).

For a party that doesn't like government bloat Republicans are really peculiar about these things.
rabid
rabid - 4/13/2020, 3:44 PM
@Kozmik - I disagree. An organization blocking orbital spy satellites and formulating ways to stop giant meteor strikes has completely separate aims from the Air Force. Each of our military forces is for a different medium of travel. Land, air, sea. Space needs it's own realm as much as the rest. Funny how people supported the idea when Bill Clinton first proposed it. It was a Democratic talking point in the early 90s, and Trump has always been a Democrat, except for when he runs for election.
Kozmik
Kozmik - 4/13/2020, 3:48 PM
@rabid - You certainly have the right, though before you do, ask yourself this: Were the things you mentioned not being done prior to Space Force (I'd have to look into Clinton proposing it and why it wasn't followed though with, which you curiously don't mention)?
