The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Steven Spielberg has teamed with Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers for an upcoming series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub's The Talisman for Netflix.

The 3x Academy Award-winning director/producer, who acquired the film rights outright and in perpetuity two years prior to it ever being published, has spent nearly thirty-five years trying to crack a screenplay for the classic fantasy-horror novel, but never made much progress until very recently.

The Duffer Brothers will serve as executive producers through their banner Monkey Massacre Productions on the series alongside Spielberg's Amblin Television and Paramount Television Studios.

The Talisman follows twelve-year-old Jack Sawyer who goes on a mystical journey to save his mother from terminal cancer with an artifact known as “the Talisman.” Jack’s search takes him from his home in New Hampshire throughout the heart of the United States, and into a perilous alternate universe called “the Territories.” The Territories are inhabited by duplicates, or “twinners,” of each person in the United States, whose lives mirror each other’s core features, such as birthdays and major emotional events.

The novel is followed by the 2001 sequel, Black House, which follows an adult Jack Sawyer. Both novels are very loosely connected to King's Dark Tower universe.

I was intrigued until Netflix. Its been a long time they put out anything series wise that was worth watching. Their movie output has been getting better but their shows have tanked in quality imo

I figured the Duffer brothers would move on from Stranger Things at some point. Guess this is Stranger Things' death nail. It'll go to five seasons and then end.

Nice. Maybe if this goes well they'll let him do the Dark Tower as well.

@BigDriggs - Absolutely. Done right, it could be just as big of a hit as GoT was for them

Stephen King is kind of the Nicholas Cage of writers. When he is great he is really great. When he sucks, he REALLY sucks

Hopefully it's better than the new version of The Stand. What a piece of junk that was.

@SodaBurps - Have to agree. The Stand was a bit of a disappointment.

I wanted to like it but the out of sequence storylines made me give up on it.

I loved The Talisman as a kid in middle school. I think I read it 4 times between 8th grade and senior year of high school. There was always word that there'd be a movie, but it never materialized.

I am definitely looking forward to a show.

@Battabing - Read it twice myself. Definitely a few parts I'm looking forward/hoping to see/ing, for instance Wolf, the men with the flying contraptions and Jack and Wolf's experience and escape from the boy's school.

The Talisman it's on Stranger Things alley, so the Duffer brothers probably gonna succeed adapting it.

Black House it's heavier and way more adult oriented, so we will see.
