STRANGER THINGS Season 3 Star David Harbour Addresses That Shocking Post-Credits Scene - SPOILERS

Stranger Things season three ended with the apparent death of David Harbour's Hopper but a post-credits scene (which was a first for the Netflix series) saw the Russians feed some poor schmuck to another Demogorgon. However, before they pulled that prisoner from his cell, the soldiers were told "not the American" by a higher up.

Now, speculation is running rampant that Hopper somehow survived and has been captured by them and that would obviously make a great basis for the inevitable fourth season.

Recently , Harbour was asked if he thinks the beloved sheriff survived, and said: "I mean, I have no idea! [Laughs] I have no idea! I mean that, of course, is my hope too. It seems pretty crazy though. You know, that machine went off and blew up and Hopper seemed to be trapped there. He did glance around a little bit, but he seemed to be trapped and the machine exploded."

"And then you cut to, what was it? It starts with a 'K' or something – some town in Russia, right? Where there’s some American and there's some other prisoner. I don't know, I mean it seems strange. I don't know how though." However, he did tell fans to wait and see what comes next. "I mean, we should always hold onto hope. We should never let go of hope – but Barb is really dead."

It would be a real blow to the series to lose Hopper and if this post-credits scene was a complete misdirect, then fans will be very upset as it felt like a pretty deliberate hint that he somehow survived and could be rescued in a fourth instalment of the hit series.

What do you guys think?

I figured he just went through into the Upside Down. If that was the Russians' only portal I don't see how they got him.

@Spagett - Yeah, That was my thought as well. I thought the end scene would show Hopper wandering around the Upside Down.
I wonder where the fourth season will take us. I really liked season 3 but it basically had the same plot as 1 and 2

@Spagett - Aleksei said they had their own portal, but couldn't keep it open. The explosion might have opened it and spit him out, especially if he tried to escape through it.

This season was my least favorite so far it really felt more like a copy of the seasons before then it's own thing. They really need to mix the villains up and stop having it just be a monster from the upside down.

@CurlyBill - Except, it wasn't JUST a monster from the Upside Down. There were obviously other villains. And also, that's the entire premise of the show, that the town is attached to another dimension. What are you expecting?

@CurlyBill - i really have no idea how you can have other villains. Obviously it can only really do monsters and government guys. This isnt a superhero show.

I saw an awesome theory that they've taken away El's powers so that she won't be able to simply look for Hopper and find out he's alive. We're all expecting "the American" in the cell to be Hopper but it'll turn out to be Brenner, who was revealed to be alive in Season 2. That's how the Russians found out about Hawkins and the Upside Down. Then we'll all be like "Oh no, it wasn't Hopper! He must really be gone." Then it'll be revealed that he's in the Upside Down. "Keep the door open three inches."

I think Hopper survived but I like to see how they find him I El is going to be the one who some how finds him.

He's dead. No need for a 4th series. It's getting a bit samey now. End of.

If he’s dead then i’m done with the show. Steve can’t carry it alone and i’m not interested in a bunch of 13 year olds kissing or dealing with the fact they are homosexual . I like the show but I projected myself onto hopper so I can’t deal with him being gone

It is evident that when Eleven regains the powers, he will use them to find Hopper. Then, she will find out that Hopper is a prisoner of the Russians.

This season was really great. The show leaned into its strengths, which are its great characters and the 80s nostalgia. It also delved more into horror, which was cool since the other two seasons were very tame. Loved Steve’s character this season, and Eleven and Hopper were fantastic. The show is great at really nailing its emotional beats. I didn’t give a shit about the metalhead dude (Max’s brother) but when he sacrificed himself to stop the goo monster I really felt it. That kind of sacrifice is such a tired trope that we’ve seen a thousand times, the ‘resisting evil and sacrificing yourself for the good guys Darth Vader thing’, but it rarely connects. The actor did a great job, he was scary when he needed to be but conveyed the subtle pain of the mind control thing really well. Hopper’s letter killed me too.

I found Mike kind of unlikeable this season though, and wish we heard more of the Mind flayer voice and understood what he wants and thinks better. The show really is painfully light on actual plot. The russian stuff was a new element, which is nice, but it didnt add anything and seemed to just be there as an excuse to reopen the gate and just because 80s= russians so why not.

but overall, this show has Dustin so I dont care that the story itself is shit.

@connorblaze - I love the implication that this could be the worst show on tv but the fact that Dustin is in it makes it worth the watch for you. Dustin is the best!!! You right!!

First Dustin was great!!! Right 8n the middle of climatic ending we stop for a song. I loved it!! Billy was fantastic. The emotional level he reached was truly great. All the Stephen King references were fun to see come out. Looking forward to season 4. Made little less teen romance, if any. Hopper, poor guy getting his ass kicked all the time. He was my favorite in the whole show. He really pulled the Magnum P.I. off.

I really like this show I just wish they would stop copying stuff from popular 80s movies and tv shows and come up with their own 80s fun ideas.

I love this show. All 3 seasons have blown me away in quality and story telling. I know not everyone loves it, seems like people are really rubbed the wrong way by the kids on here for some reason. They’re the best part of the show to me.

I binged all of season 3 the moment it came out, from 12-9am and I didn’t regret it one bit. The cast is my favorite.

Hopefully they use season 4 as an epic conclusion. I think they said 4 seasons was the plan, so. I’m excited as all hell

The Scoops Troop saved this season. The Bald Eagle gang was funny too. But my God, i never thought i'd see the day where i would call Eleven's gang boring, but i was quite tired of seeing them whining or planning stuff and siting around doing nothing while Hopper and Steve's groups already knew everything. The final episode is one of the GOATs though. I laughed and cried harder than in any other episode. A Solid 7,5 for me.
