Deadline is reporting that Kingsman and Rocketman star Taron Egerton has joined the cast of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. There's no word on who he's playing, but the entire cast of the Netflix series is being kept under wraps, so it's surprising we've even heard this much about the ambitious project!

A big screen adaptation was in the works for several years, but that ultimately fell apart.

Since then, both James Mangold (Logan) and Eric Kripke (The Boys) have taken passes at a small screen version, but it's Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman) who is now tasked with bringing Gaiman's vision to life. David S. Goyer will also serve as an executive producer, as will Gaiman.

The Sandman is expected to be comic accurate, though the story will be set in 2021 rather than 1989 (meaning Dream has been imprisoned for 105 years instead of 75, according to Gaiman).

We have no idea who Egerton will play, but he did recently provide the voice of John Constantine for the Audio adaptation, so it's possible he's set to reprise that role. Tom Sturridge (Velvet Buzzsaw) is expected to play Dream.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how The Sandman comes together, especially as most networks passed on the project before Netflix decided to add it to their growing slate of big budget TV shows. There's no word on a premiere date, and the streamer has yet to share any official details.

We'll keep you guys updated!

@WaffeX - Funny you should be first with that avi, I came here to say Taron Egerton for Wolverine 🤘🏻

@Tasmaniac - He'd make a waay better Beast, IMO.

@GwenLantern - I could see him pulling off the personality, but he’s way too small for beast. I never liked that about Nicholas Hoult’s Hank. Taron has got the nuggetty physique of the comics Logan. And he can pull off the snarling attitude as well.

If the Batman The Animated Series revival happens, they should really do that Batman/Sandman crossover that Paul Dini pitched. Would also like to see that Nocturna episode that Bruce Timm pitched. Also would love to see the Near Apocalypse of 09, although that would probably work better as a movie.

Hopefully this show turns out well. Fore streaming id say DC's best show is Doom Patrol

@dracula - agreed. Get it done while David Warner is still alive

@Dredd97 - yeah use it as the official ending of the “present day” adventures of the DCAU batman stories

Is he reprising his role as Constantine?

That would be certainly welcome.

Never mind. I just read the article and all it says is "Egerton, who has been attached to an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman...".

It probably means the Audible radio-play in which be played John Constantine, not the upcoming Netflix show.

@GwenLantern - Did you... Oh, God, you couldn't even follow this short article. 1. There is a Sandman show SEPARATE from the audio drama. 2. This article literally mentions he already played Constantine in the audio drama. They are filming the NETFLIX LIVE ACTION TV series RIGHT NOW, Neil literally posted about filming the diner scene just a few days ago.

Another stupid article from comicbookmovie. In the deadline article, it's about another tv show, not Sandman.

@Carlo79 - This article is only four hours old. You're right. The author of this article seems to have some reading comprehension issues. The very Deadline article they source only mentions that he was recently in The Sandman audio drama, not that he's in the new Netflix verison.

@MinaHarker - no surprise there. He had an article about 10 cosplay costumes better than the movie, and one of the entries was x23 in a leather midriff costume. And he didn't make the connection that, since x23 only appeared as a child in the movies that he's essentially saying a child should wear that costume. So this isn't even the worst of his lack of reading comprehension.

2 key words to describe Josh and his articles at the minute: "Thirsty" and "Reaching".

A bit young for Constantine, IMO. I suspect he's playing The Corinthian, if there's any truth to these news
