The third season of Netflix's sci-fi superhero drama The Umbrella Academy is now streaming, and we have a new poster featuring the familiar faces of the Hargreeves family alongside members of rival faction, The Sparrow Academy.

The story picks up where we left things in the season 2 finale, with our heroes coming face-to-face with their alternate reality counterparts. After a ruckus ends with the Umbrellas getting their asses handed to them, Klaus suggests retreating to the Hotel Oblivion to lick their wounds and plan their next move.

There, Five explains that their reckless time/reality-hopping escapades have caused a time paradox, which in turn brought forth something called a "kugelblitz," and both Academies may have to join forces in order to prevent another apocalypse.

Honestly, we weren't the biggest fans of season 3 (we won't get into specifics here, but feel free to ask for details in the comments below), but it certainly has its moments. Be sure to check out a few episodes and see what you think, and drop back here to continue the discussion.

The season 2 finale of The Umbrella Academy (you can check out our review here) saw the gang successfully save the world (again) from Armageddon, but when they returned to their own timeline, they found themselves in an alternate reality with the Sparrows seemingly led by the now very much alive Ben Hargreeves.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 will consist of 10 episodes, with main cast members Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya and Colm Feore all confirmed to return. Steve Blackman is also back on board as showrunner.

Check out the updated synopsis below.

After putting a stop to 1963's doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren't exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone's concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) — now all they need to do is convince Dad's new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?

@UncleHarm1 - I grew up on it. One day the Cuban kid surrounded by rednecks and black kids picking on him, started watching Scarface daily to bark back at the bullies. It worked, they were no bite. All bark. Good thing too cuz so was I!

Kind of bad timing in a way, right into Obi Wan and Ms.Marvel. Must be some overlap with the fanbase.

Either way, i'll be watching (eventually). Loved season 1 at least.

@TheManWithoutFear - I never really saw the problem with this because when I done with one show I can just watch the other

@Arthorious - Yeah my understanding is that it's about internet chatter, social media reactions etc. More people talking about it leads to a higher profile and might lead to viewers.

As it is, among the community it wants to hit, it is likely going to get lost in the chatter of Obi Wan and Ms.Marvel.

@TheManWithoutFear - I'll give it a watch too eventually, but like you say it falls right in-between some Disney+ shows.

I'm on a quite Disney+ myself now. Just watched Moon Knight and will finish Kenobi tonight, and then I plan on watching Book of Boba Fett, Atlanta S3 abd maybe even Pam & Tommy and The Dropout before watching this and Stranger Things.

@GreenAerrow - I couldn't even bring myself to review it.

Here's what I said on Twitter:

So, having had some time to digest #TheUmbrellaAcademy3 ... I dislike it even more. Nothing makes any sense; characters behave like complete morons and/or evil bastards simply because the story requires it; the jokes are recycled/obvious - even the needle drops are so much worse.

The most unforgivable part might be the complete lack of any genuine drama or stakes. It really feels like they fired the entire creative team and replaced them with some of Pogo's distant relatives.

@RorMachine - that’s disappointing. I haven’t watched yet but if that’s the case then this is probably a property they don’t see continuing much longer.
