Henry Cavill may have moved on from the role of Superman, but after his superb turn in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, the actor is now making the leap to the small screen for Netflix's The Witcher.

Today, the online streaming giant has revealed both an awesome new trailer and the show's premiere date: December 20th. That's right, The Witcher will be going head to head with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It's a ballsy move on their part, but one which could pay off.

In this take on the beloved property, "Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together."

Check out the trailer below and stay tuned for more on this one as we have it!

Still not totally sold on Cavill as Geralt but this looks really good. Love the look of everything and the tone.

Wish it was a red band trailer instead, but other than that, it looks cool. I'm still not sure about Henry Cavill as Geralt though

Ummm this is on TV and Star Wars is on theaters...so how are they competing?

Can't wait though! I've been reading The Wheel of Time all summer I'm looking forward to some good fantasy TV.

@DeathSeal - Ecactly what I thought. I'll go watch Star Wars on the 19th, and The Witcher when I get home from that haha

I do wonder what effect releasing a huge streaming show or movie the same weekend as a big movie has any real effect. My guess is no. Neither Stranger Things 3 nor El Camino seemed to have any that I could tell.

Looks amazing. I'm hoping this will take away the bitter taste GoT left me. I'm ready for a good fantasy show

The trailer looks awesome, better than expected

His voice doesn't seem consistent though.
The line when he says "I had them filed down" sounds exactly like Geralt from the games, identical. The rest of the trailer seems to be a pretty standard accent though, sort of american?

@JakeyChappers - Was thinking the same thing. Maybe he was told to knock it off because this is suppose to be based on the books version of Geralt and not the game version.

@JakeyChappers - I was thinking the same thing about the "I had them filed down" line. It was identical to Geralt, but I don't think it was too inconsistent. Guess we'll get a better listen when the show comes out which I will easily watch in a weekend

A lot of people bitching about Cavil as Geralt... how many times must we learn that our opinions have meant nothinnnn’ time and time again!

Umm.. Why is it risky to have a release date on the same date as the Rise of Skywalker? This is the age of binge watching. If anything, it's a good idea to give the audience multiple options to either choose between or watch both. It's going to do great with the ratings and reviews and being released on the same day as something else doesn't matter at all

@danimalviking - And Jumungi 2 will take a bite out of Rise like the 1st one did with TLJ. I will be skipping star wars in cinema this go around.

Better than I was expecting based off earlier stuff shown, but still not all that impressed by Cavil maybe that's personal bias off the games though. Either way I'll give a go upon release.
