THE WITCHER: Original Cast Members Expected To Return For Season 4 Despite Henry Cavill's Departure

Despite the fact Henry Cavill will leave The Witcher after the upcoming third season of the Netflix series, a new report sheds some light on whether Liam Hemsworth will be surrounded by familiar faces.

Following the news that Henry Cavill will leave The Witcher after season 3, social media was sent into something of a frenzy. However, we were barely able to digest that shocking news before it was simultaneously confirmed that Liam Hemsworth will take over as Geralt of Rivia in season 4.

While we can't take anything away from The Hunger Games star, the response to him being the show's new lead has not been too positively received. Hemsworth clearly has big shoes to fill, and we'd argue it would be somewhat unfair not to give him the chance to show what he can do as the monster hunter.

Still, fans are understandably anxious to know why Cavill would walk away from what he's always described as a dream role.

Deadline (via SFFGazette.com) has shared some new insights, explaining that sources have told them, "Cavill had made a short-term deal for The Witcher and felt it was time to move on after three seasons on the show, which films overseas and has a demanding production schedule."

As for whether his recent return as Superman factored into the decision, it sounds likely. The trade adds, "He already has film and TV projects lined up, including the just announced The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, in addition to the Superman return."

We do think there might be more at play here, including how much The Witcher has diverged from the books and games (something we know the actor wasn't a fan of). Cavill may well choose to comment on his departure down the line, but for those of you concerned that everyone is getting recast for season 4, don't worry too much.

Sources have confirmed to the site that "Cavill’s Witcher co-stars renegotiated their contracts heading into Season 4."

That's good news, and means that Hemsworth will be surrounded by familiar faces when he joins the franchise as Geralt. We have to imagine the character is being overhauled to some extent, though, as anything else runs the risk of him looking like he's just cosplaying as Henry Cavill...

The Witcher: Blood Origin premieres on December 25, while The Witcher Season 3 will follow shortly after in summer 2023.

Without Cavill I have no faith in this show surviving more than another season…

Was actually planning on checking this show out. Seems like one of those love it or hate it shows. My wife was pretty luke warm on it, and admitted she really only watched for Cavill. Asked how she felt about the recast and she said “I’m not watching the discount Hemsworth”.

Guaranteed it all comes down to the fact that the man's a movie star not a tv star. Granted television is attracting major talent these days, but I get the vibe that he wants to be known for the big screen stuff.

Plus movie money is huge compared to tv money, that alone would get anyone to make the switch. I'm not sure what he was making for the Witcher, but I bet one outing as Supes and he'll make as much in 5 months of shooting as he does in 2 seasons of the Witcher.

"the response to him being the show's new lead has not been too positively received."

Really? I have yet to see a negative response about Liam. Most things I read is about Cavill being the reason people watched it, but that doesn't say anything about Liam.

"Original Cast Members Expected To Return For Season 4 Despite Henry Cavill's Departure"

Did you expect them to stage a walkout or something? Not everyone is a Henry Cavill simp.

"The Witcher has diverged from the books and games"

Josh showing he's got no interest in either and is just parroting the same idiotic complaints from online. The games already diverged from the books and completely changed certain characters. It's impossible for the show to follow both.

Another rumor or take on why Cavill left the role is due to the fact the writers are supposedly straying too far from the source material, and it is the source material that Cavill absolutely loves and is devoted to. Basically, the show is becoming a show that Cavill did not sign up for, so leaving is easy for him. Again, just another rumor I have heard.

It makes sense. Cavill can leave because he is in demand for other roles, not sure I’ve seen the cast getting major roles in other shows or movies.
