THE WITCHER Seasons 4 And 5 Rumored To Shoot Back To Back - Is The End Nigh For Popular Netflix Series?

A new report claims that The Witcher will shoot planned fourth and fifth seasons back to back, but could this be a sign that Netflix has an end in sight for the popular fantasy series? Read on for more...

Season 3 of The Witcher recently finished shooting after five months, and while we won't get to see the results of that until sometime in 2023, a positive update on the show's future has now found its way online. This comes our way from the reliable team over at Redanian Intelligence (via SFFGazette.com) and should make Geralt of Rivia fans very happy indeed.

There have already been rumblings that season 4 of the Netflix series is being plotted out, but multiple sources have informed the site that the current plan is to shoot The Witcher's fourth and fifth season back to back. Writing and shooting would take place simultaneously, with pre-production likely to begin soon.

Making two seasons of a TV show in such quick succession is no easy task, but it has been done before.

Clearly, Netflix has no intention to cancel the show after its upcoming third season (there's been speculation that might be the case after the mixed response to season 2). Despite that, we can't help but wonder whether shooting two seasons back to back is because the series will end with season 5 as this approach is typically saved for when a franchise is wrapping up.

The Witcher features an in-demand cast, and while multiple spinoffs are on the way, we don't know how long Henry Cavill and company are willing to remain part of this world.

On the plus side, the gap between each season is now likely to be quite a bit shorter, and an additional two seasons is bound to keep the series on Netflix until at least 2025.

There are still lots of books to pull material from, of course, and the hope is that The Witcher will continue past this point. A five-season run wouldn't be all that bad, though, and there's still plenty to look forward to. Beyond the main series, we have The Witcher: Blood Origin coming this year, so this world is rapidly expanding in exciting ways.

Stay tuned to SFFGazette.com for the latest updates on The Witcher.

I mean 5 seasons is exceptional for most Netflix shows. I’d rather they wrap it up and end it well than end on a cliffhanger and cancel it like usually happens

Falling in love with a Netflix show is like falling in love with a serial cheater or someone won't commit....

It's best just to stay away before you get your heart broken🥲....

Or you can reject them before they reject you?🤔

@AmazingFILMporg - So many of my favorite shows on there get cancelled, but I keep going back hoping they don’t cancel something else but I know they will.

Kinda expected this show to last six seasons, given the number of books yet to cover.

I suspect it's to bring season releases closer. It was two years between 1 and 2, and I think one and a half between 2 and 3, so this could bring that down to one year.

Guess it being a two-parter could indeed also mean it's to wrap up the show though.

Considering how long most Netflix originals last nowadays that would be a damn good run.

Look they can continue to make rom-coms and true crime shows and dating shows and Kevin Hart movies and be a major player in the streaming wars but if they want to continue to forever be the top dog then they have create big budget long lasting big name franchises. If you want every market then you have to cater to that market too.

I’ve enjoyed the first two seasons. 5 seasons is a good run.

@MrDandy - HA! I was literally about type the same exact sentence. I’ve also enjoyed this show and think they could end it after a few more seasons.

I don't even remember this getting renewed for season 3. Anyway season q was decent, 2 was aswell, but I'm surprised it didn't get cancelled when you compare it to some of the other shows they've axed. They must have the production down to a fine cost.

If this last 5 season then good on them. Its not a fav of mine but its watchable.

I haven't watched this series but there was a rumor of Henry Cavill shooting a post-credits scene for Black Adam. This is a stretch but could they be wrapping up the series so Henry can committ to playing Superman again? I'm not getting my hopes up but it'd be interesting.

@MovieMonster - Henry is about to pull a trifecta! He will be back as Superman, a mystery role with Marvel (Captain Britain?) & Bond...James Bond!

I don't think it's going to happen, but, that would be awesome for him!👍

It's funny how short the half life is for movies and television these days. Comic book/video game adaptations, reboots, long-awaited sequels get so much hype pre-production. Yet once these are released they run its course so quickly.

The Witcher has been around for 3 years and we're already discussing the end.

Stranger Things is doing everything right... long wait times between seasons and longer episodes.

Season 2 was pretty unwatchable

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I know season 2 strays from the books, but I personally thought it was considerably better than season 1

Cavill hard carries this show, with some nice vfx for those monsters, but the writing is not that much better than Rings of Power.
Rosraf

Cavill's schedule is getting too full. Makes sense to film two seasons while you can. I bet they leave the door open to maybe add more down the road in 5-10 years.

@Rosraf - btw, this is what they should have done with Stranger Things as well.

If I were to guess they are squaring away / finishing the series as Cavill has been picked up by an extended franchise be it Bond Marvel or DC much the same way they finished the Jack Ryan series by filming successive seasons back to back to free up John Krasinski. Just saying.

They sorta have to wrap it up soon, Henry Cavill has signed up for every franchise and every movie series in existence according to Cavill articles from the last year haha
