THE WITCHER Showrunner Says Claims The Creative Team Dislike And Mock Source Material Are Untrue

It feels like The Witcher franchise really can't catch a break these days, and showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has now hit back at claims the creative team actively dislike and mock the books and games.

The Witcher has frequently been criticised by fans for not better sticking to the books and games it's based on. As a result, no one was overly shocked when former writer Beau DeMayo (Moon Knight) revealed that some of his fellow scribes on the Netflix series would openly mock the source material, creating even more bad feeling towards the show.

That's only been exacerbated with the news Henry Cavill is leaving The Witcher, while Liam Hemsworth stepping in to play Geralt of Rivia in the already confirmed fourth season has been similarly poorly received.

The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has recently been doing the rounds to promote The Witcher: Blood Origin, but expertly dodged many of the questions about the main show's future. However, she recently hit back at followers on Instagram (via SFFGazette.com) who pointed to her being among those who dislike Andrzej Sapkowski's novels and CD Projekt Red's games.

"I think if you watch...any interview I’ve ever done...including those with [Andrzej Sapkowski]...you’ll see that I am quite a fan of the books [and the games]," Hissrich responded before taking aim at DeMayo's claims. "Do you believe...that when one person states something as fact, that it’s therefore fact? This particular thing is not a fact."

"I love the books. I’m shit at the games, but that’s me, not them," she continued. "I’ve never mocked the books...The books are my entire livelihood, I have a great relationship with Mr. Sapkowski, and writers rooms are sacred and safe and — more than anything — supportive spaces. Don’t believe everything you read."

She later added, "I have great respect for Beau, and the episodes he wrote! The Striga episode is one of my favorites. He wrote the one where people came to Kaer Morhen and Eskel died, which had a lot of backlash, but he was brave in telling the story he wanted to tell. It takes a lot of balls to do that. I respect that."

We can't fault Hissrich for attempting some level of damage control, but it's not coming across too well and appears to be doing little to appease angry and disappointed fans.

We don't anticipate Netflix pulling the plug on The Witcher, but if this upcoming spin-off doesn't attract an audience and fans tune out of Cavill's final season after that disappointing second batch of episodes...well, we're not 100% convinced season 4 will end up happening (sorry about that, Liam).

A lot of people write these shows lol. As respectful as this one person may be, the claim came from somewhere. From someone else who worked on the show.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - yeah, could be. Those claims are probably not about her, but more likely about writers that only did a few episodes (like DeMayo himself).

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Beau "was brave in telling the story he wanted to tell."

Bravely telling a worse story than the one they're "adapting"

@UncleHarm1 - yeah I never got the idea of these idiots trying to put their spin on it.. and telling their stories. FOH . The audience wants to watch the story in the books.. not your shitty take.

These claims are obviously true for anyone who has seen at least 10 minutes of this shit.

''I love the books. I’m shit at the games, but that’s me, not them''

From this quote, they only thing I take is that she (or other writers) may have been mocking their own relationship to the source material. It's a thing I do as well.

Can someone honestly explain to me how Netflix already had this show's series 3 and 4 already greenlit before production when shows that are genuinley good on that platform we have to wait what feels like an age for a renweal or cancellation announcement.

Is it really that inexpensive to produce this show?

I mean the show is alright and all, but suprised this is still on but greats like Sense8 only got 2 season's with a wrap up episode.

@UniqNo - Witcher Season 1 was Netflix's most watched show world wide for several months.

I’ve never read the source material or played the games but I do enjoy Cavill as Geralt and I definitely watch the show more because I enjoy his character. Never watched anything because of Liam Hemsworth, could t actually tell you anything he starred in that I liked.

But if you know the source material, you know it's a lie lol this ship is sunk

Then why is season 1 the only somewhat faithful season? You'd think if you liked the books you'd adapt them as faithfully as possible.

If she spent less time [frick]ing off on Twitter and more time creating quality, then this backlash would of never happened and Henry would of never left the show and finish his obligation.

No. Instead, she has these long winded arguments with people on Twitter, always regarding the state of the show and the constant news articles pointing at BTS dilemmas which at this point, is too bogus to believe it isn't true and that we are all blowing it up.

I'm not a big fan of the games or movies, but the very little of the show I saw did not want to make me pick up the book or play the game.

I tend to believe it when your main actor leaves the show after pledging to stick with it, who he himself claims to be a huge fan as well. If it was just a "rumor" it wouldn't hold any weight, action has given it weight.

Either way I wasn't a fan of the show so I wasn't going to be watching with or without Henry anyways.

We’ll never know. Not like they’d admit it.

My guess I after season 3 we get a time jump to season 4 and the beginning of Witcher 3 when Ciri is grown and Geralt is more scared and Bearded and the show will likely get a subtitle like WILD HUNT to set it apart from the first 3 seasons and they will 100% ape everything from Witcher 3 in a desperate attempt to milk this franchise dry before it implodes.

Isn't it always funny how Josh runs all the "rumors and b.s. conspiracy theories" that conforms to his point of view and ideology, but anything that doesn't are just rumors and b.s. conspiracy theories?

Of course the untalented writers of this show have done all these things, because they're Woke no-talent hacks and these are the kinds of things they do. Along with bastardizing Tolkien's world, and Indiana Jones, and the MCU, and Star Wars, and so many other franchises and so much of our pop culture legendarium. The Witcher was never going to be done right during this era of Woke losers.

@HistoryofMatt - Any time someone uses the word woke to describe their whining I laugh. What an absolute joke of a rant. "Everything is woke! Everything is ruined!"

I can't take y'all kids seriously. Crying over every damn thing.
