Netflix has released the first trailer for Thunder Force, a new superhero comedy starring Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy that's set to hit the streamer next month.

The leads play estranged childhood friends who reconnect right before gaining super-powers. Lydia (McCarthy) is accidentally injected with a formula which grants her superhuman strength, while Emily (Spencer) gains the power of invisibility. Together, they form a dynamic duo known as Thunder Force and set about ridding the streets of Chicago of crime.

Written and directed by Ben Falcone (Superintelligence), the cast also includes Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man, Boardwalk Empire) as main villain "The King," with Jason Bateman (The Outsider) and Pom Klemetieff (Guardians of the Galaxy) as his lackeys.

This looks... like it might be fun? Let's just hope they didn't stick their best gags in this trailer.

In a world terrorized by super-villains, one woman has developed the process to give superpowers to regular people. But when scientist Emily Stanton accidentally imbues her estranged best-friend with incredible abilities, the two women must become the first superhero team. Now, it is up to Thunder Force to battle the super-powered Miscreants and save Chicago from the clutches of The King.

Thunder Force is set to premiere on Netflix on April 9.

They're both so much better than "They're too old and fat to get out of a Lambo" joke.

I hate how high the production value for this is for it to look this boring. At least we didn't get a Chicago violence joke. Yet.

The first act seems like it’s going to be cringe, but the part against the villains looks to be a fun time. Cannavale is usually great and seems to be having fun hamming it up, I might tune in for him. He was damn great in Boardwalk Empire.
