WE CAN BE HEROES: Robert Rodriguez Developing A Sequel For Netflix Following Record-Setting Viewership

Netflix says We Can Be Heroes helped contribute to some record-setting viewership numbers over Christmas, so it probably won't surprise you to learn that a sequel is now in the works with Robert Rodriquez!

The Hollywood Reporter brings news that there are already plans for a sequel to Robert Rodriquez's new superhero film for kids, We Can Be Heroes. The project is in active development, and comes after a successful holiday season for Netflix thanks to a notable bump in subscribers.

The streamer, which records data based on just two minutes of viewing, reveals that December 25 - December 31 saw the service record its biggest viewership numbers ever for that holiday period.

Netflix added 28 million subscribers in the first three financial quarters of 2020, and 44 million households watched We Can Be Heroes during its first 28 days on the service. It's no wonder, then, that the plan now is to move forward with a sequel featuring these colorful superheroes.

Taking characters from Rodriguez's Spy Kids franchise and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, We Can Be Heroes follows the children of Earth's superheroes after their parents are kidnapped by alien invaders. Rodriguez wrote, directed, and produced this first installment, and will return to take on the same roles for the sequel.

There's no release date yet, and Rodriguez will likely need to finish working on The Book of Boba Fett before he can start shooting this untitled We Can be Heroes sequel.

Haven't seen it, probably won't see it for a while but I'm really glad that Rodriguez is picking up steam again!
First Boba Fett and now this.
Rodriguez is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best, action directors out there. Let him write and direct and he'll deliver one hell of a ride.
It's also a likable trait of his that he is so hellbent to make films for children, he wouldn't have to but seems to really have a passion for kids movies. Won't complain, I loved Spy Kids as a kid

Another reason to never return to Netflix. The type of content they keep pumping out is not worth the $17.99 monthly fee. Amazon Video has been coming in clutch instead.

Netflix only has few good shows like Cobra Kia.

@DoubleD - Netflix has great anime and foreign shows too. But if that's not your cup of tea then its fine. I struggle to find a service that is as great as Netflix for the price.

I think its worth it because their movies and shows drop all at once so you can binge or watch them whenever you have time, compared to just waiting for event drops like Disney+, Hulu, or HBO Max.

Cue people on this site bitching about a movie that was made solely for kids.

@CWBNGAJEEPGUY85 - Yeah, it's a kids movie, and kids liked it. There is definitely a market for at-home kid entertainment (that isn't outright annoying for the adults in the room).

2 minutes counts as a view... Whoever came up with that metric was calling themselves having sex after getting to first base.
