When Ahsoka Tano first joined the Star Wars franchise, the response from fans was a little mixed. There were those who rejected the idea of Anakin Skywalker having an "annoying" kid Padawan/sidekick, but as The Clone Wars continued, it became apparent that there was more to the young Jedi than met the eye and she quickly became a firm fan-favourite.

As the years passed, Ahsoka's popularity only continued to grow, and following live-action appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, she's a bigger hit than ever before.

Ashley Eckstein has spent most of her career playing Ahsoka, and will continue to be the voice of the hero in any upcoming animated projects (such as Disney+'s Tales of the Jedi). Talking to us about the return of the Her Universe Fashion Show to Comic-Con, the actress opened up on seeing Ahsoka's popularity grow across generations of Star Wars fans.

"It’s amazing. I’ve been going to conventions now for the past year and a half, so I’ve had the privilege of meeting thousands of fans. It’s really just astounding to see that Ahsoka is more popular than ever. You have multiple generations of Star Wars fans that love Ahsoka," Eckstein tells us. "You have the original trilogy fans that have gone back and discovered The Clone Wars and Rebels, and they’ve fallen in love with Ahsoka and how she intertwines with the overall Skywalker Saga. "

"Then, you have the prequel fans that also grew up with The Clone Wars and love the prequels. Obviously, Anakin and Ahsoka are so integral to those between Episodes II and III, but then you have The Clone Wars fans," she continues. "That is their Star Wars or the first Star Wars they were introduced to, and they’re very proud and outspoken about that."

"Now, you have a new generation of Star Wars fans who watched The Mandalorian first and were like, ‘Wait a minute, who is this character? Let me go back and find out.’ They’re watching The Clone Wars for the first time and falling in love with Ahsoka, so it’s really just amazing."

"There are very few things that unite all Star Wars fans and I think part of the power of Ahsoka is that she universally unites Star Wars fans of all ages and generations. She’s such a positive force and it’s really just an honour to be the voice of Ahsoka and to be associated with her. It’s an honour I don’t take lightly."

It is pretty incredible to see how Ahsoka Tano's role in the Star Wars Universe has expanded in recent years, and thanks to The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, she is now an integral part of this Galaxy Far, Far Away. With a live-action series on the horizon, that only looks set to continue.

My evil plan is to get everyone on board with Star Wars. I don't like the sequel trilogy, but other people do, including the younger generation. When I go to Galaxy's Edge (Floridian privilege) I see little girls dressing up as Rey. If a new generation can embrace her, that means they will most likely embrace the rest one day. Ahsoka wasn't on my list of favorite Star Wars characters, but with good writing, and a good arc, she grew on me. Now I think she's great, and it's a good thing she is getting her own series. I hope Ashley Eckstein cameos in some way.

Also, talk about bridging the gap. This was such a cool moment

@DarthOmega - that prospect of a character having the potential to grow into something far better or more interesting than the character's first introduction is something I do always like. Rey is no different.

There are so many interesting directions they can still take the character of Rey in, that I'm still invested in who the character is now

@DarthOmega - Always love Ahsoka. Definitely need more of those moments between her and Luke.

Tbh I actually hated Ashoka at first, she was one of the things about Clone Wars when it came out that made me not like it compared to the 2D version but they built her character so well not only did I eventually come to love the series but she’s one of my favorite characters in canon at this point.

@Ha1frican - I never hated her, I just thought she was unnecessary.

But like you, she's now one of my favorite characters.

I'm having a hard time seeing Rosario as my Ashoka, even Rebels Ashoka felt off to me, but even with a bit of a tonal disconnect she's still more appealing to me than anything else Star Wars right now, which makes me both extremely hyped and extremely worried for her Disney+ show.

@HAUSMAN01 - I refuse to watch that based on the title alone.

Blankman and Meteor Man are staples of my childhood!

Although I didn't dislike her early on, I wasn't a big fan either. It wasn't until the Netflix season dropped I got around to watching Clone Wars, and Netflix meant I could watch it all in a month's time and get to know the character.

And it really was only in those later seasons where I started to cheer for her (like many I suppose) though. Even to the extent that I wanted Siege of Mandalore as a movie, because seeing Rex and Ahsoka on the big screen is (still) a dream.

Ahsoka is the Luke Skywalker that OT fans deserved. She's more Luke in Disney Canon than the farce who died on that island could ever be. Hamill deserved better and I'm glad Favreau and Filoni see that too.

I’m really glad they matured Ahsoka over the course of Clone Wars.

When they first brought her on she was annoying as hell calling Anakin “Sky Guy” .

They developed that character very well .
