A live-action Star Wars show has been in development since even before Dinsey's acquisition of LucasFilm. The original version titled Star Wars: Underworld was to be set between the first two trilogies and was said to have had over 50 hours worth of material already written, but the show was placed on indefinite hold due to budgetary issues back in 2010.

A live-action series is now once again in development, this time from Iron Man director Jon Favreau. Very little is known about the project except that it takes place seven years after the Battle of Yavin, filling in the time period between 1983's Return of the Jedi and 2015's The Force Awakens and will star an all-new set of characters.

ThatHashtagShow has now revealed that long-time Star Wars production designer Doug Chiang will be joining Favreau on bringing the galaxy far, far away to the small screen, serving as production designer on the untitled series. Chiang has worked on previous films in the science-fiction franchise including The Phantom Menace, The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was celebrated for its perfect re-capturing and expansion of original trilogy utilitarian aesthetics.

Favreau has also enlisted the aid of art director Andrew L. Jones who worked with the director previously on 2016's The Jungle Book as well as other visually striking films like Avatar, Oz The Great and Powerful, The Last Samurai and The Adventures of Tintin.

The show is set to air on Disney's new online streaming service, which is planned for release at the end of 2019.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Chiang and Jones' work? Are you excited about Favreau's live-action show? What would you like to see in the series? Leave your thoughts below.

All that writing for the canned tv shown must be in the Skywalker ranch basement somewhere, dust some of them scripts off and let George direct a few episodes.

I'm more excited for this show than I am the movies. And none of the movies have particularly rubbed the wrong way, it's just this seems to be infinitely more creative and original, at least in terms of potential. It remains to be seen if it'll be good because it's still a long way off, but this project is the most exciting thing to come out of the acquisition so far.

It's a shame those scripts will probably never be realised in any form. Apparently the show was pretty adult in places and I doubt Disney would let all that material get out. They seem pretty interesting anyway so I hope they influence this new show in some way.

Only star wars project I am actually looking forward too. In my opinion Star Wars could use a live-action series. If you ask me, they should've put all the characters who had and are next for the spin-offs (Lando, Kenobi, Boba Fett) in a live action series a la the young indiana jones chronicles. Think it could actually work. Take a look at Clone Wars, although having an overarching story, it really is an anthonolgy tv series
