Jon Favreau's Live Action STAR WARS Series Will Reportedly Cost About $100 Million For 10 Episodes

The live-action Star Wars show from Jon Favreau (Iron Man) is one of the most hotly anticipated series set to air on the Disney streaming service, and now we know the project will have a massive budget.

Streaming services are all the rage nowadays, and soon enough Disney will be launching its very own service. But since the project is still in the early stages of development, we know very little about what content will be available.

However, one program we do know fans will be able to stream is a live-action Star Wars show from Iron Man director Jon Favreau, which will be set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Like most projects set in the Star Wars universe, story details on the series remain under wraps. But thanks to a report from the New York Times, we know the highly anticipated show "is expected to cost roughly $100 million for 10 episodes."

This whopping number means the series will join the likes of Game of Thrones, whose sixth season had a similar budget. Though, this shouldn't come as too big of a surprise as Favreau and Disney will likely need to spend a lot on VFX among other things. Plus, the new Star Wars program is undoubtedly a big selling point for the streaming service, which means they'll try to make sure it's of the highest quality.

I'm not paying for this shit.

And I hope to god they stray away from the typical "jedi on the run after order 66" story.

@brek - Let me clarify that my choice not to pay for it has nothing to do with quality (since I can't determine that just yet) and more to do with the fact that there are so many New Streaming Services that a ni99a can't keep up. rather my wallet can't keep up

okay well that's pretty much what HOUSE OF CARDS was back at the beginning as well. I mean yeah their season 1 was 13 episodes, but still, more or less equivalent. Netflix was shelling out around $100M to produce that.

Favreau and Star Wars sounds dreamy, i'm in for this. He's an awesome storyteller and one of my absolute favorite filmmakers, bring it Jon.

That doesn't sound that much tbh for 10 episodes. Lots of VFX work needed.

@Unites - it actually is if you know how to spend it like GoT producers. Movie budgets are bloated because money is thrown around too easily. Like they will be editing the movie and decide that odins eyepatch doesnt look good enough and then they cg it over the practical one. And that is wasted money if you ask me.

Nice! Putting their money where there mouth is. This and the LotR budget makes me very excited at each’s potential.

Favreau is an absolute legend. He's made a Christmas classic, kicked off the MCU with Iron Man, made an Oscar-winning live-action Jungle Book, is making a live-action Lion King movie, and through all of that, he's been somehow involved in some of the most influential sitcoms of all time, and took the time to make a critically acclaimed, personal project. Now he's gonna make a Star Wars TV show.

I hope this show is better than the shannara chronicles he produced. At first i thought it was a bad idea to do a star wars tv show, because i thought it would be a waste of good ideas and would dilute the brand. But now i realise it gives them a chance to tell stories outside of the blockbuster formula, that dont have mindblowing twists and spectacular climaxes, that get repetitive fast. They can tell more intimate stories in a freeform, non-formulaic way. Marvel is held back from telling more ironman and cap and thor movies because they cant go any bigger than the last installments, and have written themselves into a corner. TV means you dont have to go bigger and bigger, you just have to find interesting arcs for the character to follow like daredevil did with the kingpin.

@Presto76 - i have to mention GoT again and say that, after that show, it is proven tv can and sometimed should go bigger and bigger.
