STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN - Jon Favreau Shares A New Image Confirming That IG-88 Will Appear

Jon Favreau has given Star Wars fans an awesome Christmas present by confirming that IG-88 will be making an appearance in the first ever live-action series set in the galaxy far, far away.

This character was featured very briefly in The Empire Strikes Back along with fellow bounty hunters Boba Fett, Dengar, Bossk, Zuckuss and 4-LOM. Though we're not sure whether any of those others will be joining the assassin droid in The Mandalorian or not, it would gel with a recent rumor from Making Star Wars if Bossk, at least, were to appear.

Check out the image from Favreau's Instagram page below, and let us know what you think of this reveal in the usual place.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates) will all helm installments of the series.

There's no release date for The Mandalorian just yet, but it is expected to premiere on Disney+ at some point next year.

HK-47 without the personality or success rate. In short, IG-88: ya basic.

@Spock0Clock - I was just about to say, still waiting for my live action hk47. One of the best characters in Kotor 2.

Highlight of Christmas so far in the Fleck household: starting an inadvertent comic book movie discussion and having my drunk aunt say the 3rd Thor was shit because they cut his hair and she wouldn't [frick] him with short hair. Shes a bloody liar cuz she totally would, but it was hilarious. Best Christmas ever.

Part of why I got Star Wars fatigue so much quicker than superhero is they have such a small pool to draw from: pretty much everything people like comes from ANH or TESB. Yes, Stan and Jack created most of the famous characters in the mid-60s, but take Cap fighting Thanos in Infinity War. A 1940s character taking on a 1970s character in a adaptation of a 1990s arc. The Mandalorian armor and TESB's bounty hunters are yet more of things invented in the period of 1977-1980, just like 5/7 of Star Wars films are prequels to the 1977 film. I thought I was sick of Jedi and Sith, but I think I might be MORE sick of villainous scum and bounty hunters and the SW underworld. Come up with something new, people.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Funny stuff. Saw this last week and it never gets old. One of their best in a while. I know it will never happen but I'd love to get this series on DVD just to watch the insanity. Looks like fun!

I'm just glad they are doing this rather than trying to force an entire Boba Fett movie down our throats.

Also, since we're talking SW, haven't bashed Rian Johnson in a while....

Even on Christmas, Rian Johnson is shit. I hope he gets coal.

Ahhhh.. all better. Merry Christmas CBM!

@OptimusPrimeTime - I do sometimes wonder if this project was originally titled ‘Boba Fett’ until the “failure” of Solo and then just re-worked to be an original character. This way you still get a Mandalorian with Bounty Hunting, but you also don’t have to deal with fan backlash of a beloved character.

Yeah I had that toy too, when I was like 6. Found it in a yard sale in Alabama... If I still had all the Kenner toys I used to have I would not have to work.

Wait didn't IG88 go to the junkyard in the sky in empire? I was under the impression that he was killed by Boba Fett and left in the junk room where they find c3p0

@sickboy76 - Is this from recent comic / novel canon or is it from before Disney did the Thanos snap on the Extended Universe?
