THE MANDALORIAN: George Lucas Drops By The Set Of Jon Favreau's New STAR WARS Series

Legendary filmmaker George Lucas stopped by the set of Jon Favreau's new Star Wars television series to wish the executive producer a happy birthday. But did Lucas also offer input on The Mandalorian?

George Lucas sold his movie studio to Disney in 2012, but the legendary filmmaker occasionally still drops by the set of various  Star Wars projects to see how his beloved franchise is doing. He's like the uncle that shows up to your house unannounced and offers his opinion on how you should raise your child - except in this case his visits are welcomed.

Most recently, Lucas stopped by the set of The Mandalorian, the new live-action scripted Star Wars television series that's being written and executive produced by Jon Favreau. It appears that Lucas dropped by to surprise Favreau on his birthday, but I wouldn't be surprised if the former Star Wars writer and director offered a few words of advice.

Unfortunately, the photos don't reveal much about The Mandalorian, but seeing Lucas on set - regardless of how much input he had - is exciting nonetheless. Lucas stepped away from the Star Wars franchise when he sold Lucasfilm to Disney, but it's nice to see him still show a keen interest in the franchise he built. And sometimes even make suggestions.

Previously, Lucas stopped by the set of Solo: A Star Wars Story where he offered some input on a specific scene as it related to Han's behavior. His advice was embraced by director Ron Howard and the end result was something more faithful to the character that Lucas originally created.

Given that The Mandalorian is set after Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens, it's unlikely he had too much input on the project, as these are probably characters created specifically for the show. But it remains possible that he had some advice on the overall vision the Star Wars universe. Or maybe he just wanted to catch a beer with Jon Favreau and wish him a happy birthday.

Regardless, it's always nice to see George Lucas return to his baby.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic...

The Mandalorian is set to debut next year on Disney's streaming service.

The director of Solo is Ron Howard not Todd Howard.
