THE MANDALORIAN Score To Be Written By BLACK PANTHER Composer Ludwig Goransson

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a galaxy far, far away, Lucasfilm has nabbed Black Panther composer Ludwig Göransson to score the upcoming Star Wars live-action series, The Mandalorian, for Disney+.

While legendary composer John Williams usually handles the score for the core Star Wars saga films, Lucasfilm typically turns to others composers for its spinoff projects. The same will be true for The Mandalorian, the upcoming live-action series that will air on Disney's streaming service starting next year.

Announced by Lucasfilm, acclaimed composer and record producer Ludwig Göransson will work on the score for The Mandalorian, which is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau. In a statement on the Star Wars website, Göransson expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

“Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the Star Wars universe. I am deeply grateful to Jon Favreau and Disney for this opportunity and to John Williams for raising the bar so high with his iconic, intrepid scores — they will never be matched. In these next months I hope to honor the tradition of Star Wars’ musical landscape while propelling The Mandalorian into new and unchartered territory. And I will try to remember that there is no try.”

Göransson boasts an impressive resume, earning Golden Globe Award and Grammy nominations for his work on Marvel's Black Panther. His other film credits include Creed, Creed II, and Venom. On the small screen, he's composed music for Community and New Girl. He has also received three Grammy nominations for his work with Donald Glover - perhaps better known around these parts for his role as Lando Calrissian in Solo on the latest Childish Gambino.

The Mandalorian is currently in production with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) helming the first episode and serving as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Set after the fall of the Empire and before the rise of the First Order, the series follows a lone Mandalorian gunfighter, played by Pedro Pascal, in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian will be exclusive to the Disney+ streaming service, which is set to launch in late 2019.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed it isn’t John Williams (I know he’s never done the TV stuff but this is a little different) but the guy has done great work on BP so this is definitely a win
