American Gods premiered at SXSW this week to a very positive reaction, and Starz has now released a brand new trailer for the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's weird and wonderful novel.

For those unfamiliar with the plot, this teaser provides a much better idea of what viewers can expect to see when Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) takes to the road with the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), while also featuring first looks at the likes of Anansi (Orlando Jones) and Easter (Kristin Chenoweth).

Check out the trailer along with some new promo images and an official synopsis below, and let us know what you think in the usual place.

The traditional Old Gods, with mythological roots from around the world, fear irrelevance as their believers die off or are seduced by the money, technology, and celebrity offered by the New Gods. Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is an ex-con who, left adrift by the recent death of his wife, becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to conman Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). But in truth, Mr. Wednesday is a powerful old deity, on a cross-country mission to build an army and reclaim his lost glory.

Im about a 100 pages into the book. I'm enjoying it so far. I cant wait to watch this, bryan fuller is great and I loved hannibal, such a great show i really hope they can have one more season. This looks great, cast looks like they fit the characters well. My only complaint is ian mcshane as Mr. Wednesday, he a great actor but he seems like a safe pick. I would have liked to have seen their first choice for the role Nicholas Cage.

@CurlyBill - They are planning on adding a bunch that was cut from the book - which has me stoked. I loved the book.

The book is a masterpiece!
At least, that's what I thought when I read it 15 years ago… I was barely more than a teenager back then. Time flies.
Still, this series looks really promising.

I really liked the book, not sure I loved it though. A lot of seemed a bit unnecessary, like Gaiman was setting up more plotlines that never went anywhere. Also, the end was a bit... silly? I'll need to give it another read.

@RorMachine - I'm still only a few chapters in. It's alright so far.

Have you read Ready Player One yet?

@RorMachine - I read it quite recently and LOVED IT. Though I was expecting a bit more from the ending. It's not a massive let down just not what I expected from the build-up. Visually, it created the most awesome images in my mind. I reckon it could be loads better as an animated series stylised like Samurai Jack. Genndy Tartakovsky could make an amazing 10 part series.

Is it a spoiler who Ian actually is? It was given in the first trailer/teaser but not in this one.

looks awesome, Jonathan Tucker is in it, he is a great actor and was great in the Black Donnely's (great show cancelled after 1 season, what a shame), he was in Kingdom with Frank Grillo, but I haven't watched this show because Nick Jonas is in it, has anybody seen Kingdom? is it good?

Agreed, the book is great. I didn't absolutely love it. It is great. The third act is a little convoluted and there are portions that could be trimmed out. Overall great book, great story, concept was a lot of fun.

The book was good, though it the third act was worse than the first two. I'm pretty excited for the show. Hopefully, this could pave the way for a potential Sandman show.

This should be a really interesting watch for people unfamiliar with the book specifically or Gaiman's writing in general. I hope it'll be good and has success! :)
