Neil Gaiman is widely revered as one of the most prominent and talented writers in the world. Not only is he a standout in the comic book community for his work onThe Sandman, but the multi-talented author is also known for his books outside of the medium.

Gaiman's work is often adapted for the screen to deliver the layered stories in a medium that appeals to wider audiences. His projects that have received television series adaptations are The Sandman, Lucifer, Good Omens, and American Gods.

While many of the shows stemming from Gaiman's writing are popular, American Gods particularly struck a chord with audiences as it aired on Starz, which allowed it to fit in the realm of adult entertainment. Now that the series has ended, Lionsgate is releasing a complete collection of all three seasons along with a tonne of additional features.

The official press release from Lionsgate states the following product information about the release of American Gods: The Complete Series:

Follow the epic war between the Old Gods and the New Gods from start to finish in American Gods — Seasons 1–3: The Complete Series, arriving March 1 from Lionsgate. Released from prison, left adrift by the tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow Moon finds himself in the center of a world where gods exist and magic is real. As he travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it. Based on the massively popular best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman and created by Bryan Fuller (“Star Trek: Discovery,” "Hannibal," "Dead Like Me") and Michael Green (“Heroes,” Logan, Blade Runner 2049), American Gods — Seasons 1–3: The Complete Series will be available on DVD for the suggested retail price of $44.98 SRP.

Set in a hidden world where magic is real and gods exist on earth, AMERICAN GODS chronicles the brewing war between Old Gods and New Gods, as the traditional gods of mythology are steadily losing believers to a burgeoning pantheon of modern gods focused on technology and money. The story across three seasons centers around ex-convict Shadow Moon, bodyguard for the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, an Old God trying to rebuild the power and influence the Old Gods once had. As events unfold and Shadow struggles with his identity and place in the world, AMERICAN GODS examines humanity’s conflicted relationship with faith and the unknown.

American Gods: The Complete Series gets a DVD release on March 1st.

the first season was damn great, I really liked the cinematography, a shame we never got a 4th season

Did it at least end on a good note or open for a fourth season?

@Blergh - Fell apart at the end. Like, almost comically bad Wile E Coyote fell apart.

@Blergh - It's not a good note but it ended on a very apt spot from the book. It may have made one of the best moments of the book pretty lame, but it's an appropriate spot to end on.

@Reeds2Much - I think you're overstating it a bit, it was far from teh best season but even for that it wasnt awful

I personally disliked the concept that people can create a "god" as long as they believe in it. Like the God Of Technology and what not. Its strange how humanity can create a deity so powerful and yet the only way to defeat them is to stop believing in them. In theory it sounds cool but I feel like the execution wasn't there in my opinion. I feel like something of that caliber would thrive as an anime though.

@SonOfAGif - If you go back to movies like Wrath Of The Titans and some others, the Gods lose their power when people stop praying to them, so them creating a new deity isn't that far fetched.

The first season was damn great, despite taking some liberties with the source material. But it went quickly downhill after that, since the original showrunners left. The fact that so many actors kept leaving the show between seasons also created many whole in the story and changing to writers with completely different approach also made the show feel inconsistent.

The third and last season was laughably bad. I use the write rants on YouTube after every disappointing episode. I glad it ended when it did.

Also, those who remember the controversy surrounding Orlando Jones' departure from the show, I now believe his version of the whole thing 100%. Seeing what they did with the show and the characters in the final season, no way did those poor explanations from the new showrunner hold any logic in retrospect.

This one's still on my list to binge... I guess I don't need to wait now that I know there isn't another season. :D

@NateBest - Do yourself a favor and don't watch beyond season 1. Just read (or re-read) the book after that.

@Odin - Good to know!

The most disappointing TV show adaptation ever! First season was so accurate and great, then Bryan Fuller was denied a bigger budget and left, and then Gillian Anderson left as media, then they change essential plots from the book, and then Marilyn Manson haha [frick] this show! Just read the book

The show had a good first season and went downhill fast. Read the book, it's one of Gaiman's best!

The ending of the 3rd season made me mildly interested in a 4th. Shame.
