VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Director Reveals Reason For Woody Harrelson Ditching VENOM Wig For Sequel

Woody Harrelson debuted as Cletus Kasady in Venom's post-credits scene in a ridiculous wig, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis now reveals why that's been ditched for the sequel...

Venom included a somewhat random post-credits scene that saw Eddie Brock meet Cletus Kasady, a character better known to comic book fans as Carnage. Sony Pictures made an awesome casting decision by choosing Woody Harrelson to fill the role, though he quickly became something of a laughing stock online thanks to the ridiculous curly wig he was wearing.

Thankfully, today's trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage confirmed that it's been scrapped for a much better hairstyle that a) doesn't look ridiculous, and b) is actually more comic accurate.

Now, in an interview with IGN, director Andy Serkis has explained the change. "We wanted to give a sense that he's been in there for some time and that he's gone through various changes," he said, "so that we could really [see] what's going on with the darkness of the character."

Talking about designing Carnage, the filmmaker added: "This character was so much fun to work on in design and to take [from] the comic world. It was wonderful having the opportunity to take this character that's never been seen before on screen, as much as you do get to know him in our story and to really play with the physicality, how he moves, how he extrudes his tentacles."

It seems obvious that Harrelson's wig was ditched for Venom: Let There Be Carnage because of the reaction online, though you have to give Serkis credit for how diplomatic he is about scrapping that here. It feels like we've only really scratched the surface with Harrelson's Cletus, though, so keep checking back here for more.

I like the newer look better 100%.

I have very high confidence that Woody is going to be suuuuuuper good as Cletus. Movie may not be something I really like, but his presence will be great. Have no doubt about it.

@Menks123 - Woody will definitely do a great job. Its what they give him that scares me.

Cletus is a really twisted character with a messed up childhood and past. With all the comedy we saw in the trailer it really worries me that we won't see the psychotic, murderous side of him in a faithful way. I mean, when he was a little kid his killed his grandmother by pushing her down the cellar stairs. I can't imagine this movie will capture how messed up he is.

@CorndogBurglar - Yeah, I don't know how in depth they will go.

Cletus is a terrifying character.

Worked out for the best. I can take him remotely seriously now with the new look.

“Because it looked stupid” is the correct answer

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Honestly though, who is scarier? The ordinary-looking guy who confidently walks around casually killing people or the guy who does that with a spectacular mop of auburn curls on his head?

This is a guy who knows no limits.

Because it looked ridiculous, that's why. Just admit it Andy (although his answer makes sense too)

The reason the wig is gone is because it looked [frick]ing ridiculous.

And besides, we all know that Woody Harrelson is bald, and there's absolutely no problem with that. Why the [frick] would you give him that stupid-ass Kyle Broflovski wig other than "WeLL iN da cOmiC bOokS hE hAs dA rED hAir So hEs gOTtA hAvE ReD haIr iN Da mOv--" I DON'T GIVE A [frick]!!! I'm not here to read the goddamn comics, I'm here to watch a [frick]ing MOVIE! It's shit like this that makes me so [frick]ing angry at this series. Like, just stop with all this blatant pandering you're trying to do to comic fans who only care about how things look and nothing else! It's like some [frick]ed up magic trick where someone goes "Hey, what if I give you a lap dance? Then you'll ignore the fact that I'm taking your wallet right now, yeah?" NO! You're still taking my [frick]ing wallet!

Honestly, I feel like Harrelson's presence, stature and acting ability would've made it easy for him to convey a psychopath like Cletus Kassady even without the wig.

Why is Carnage big and bulky? He looks like a red version of Riot from the 1st movie
