VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Director Says Sequel Is Really A "Love Story" Between Symbiote & Host

Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis has revealed some new details about his upcoming sequel, pointing out that, at its core, the movie is really a "love Story" between symbiote and host.

By the end of the first Venom movie, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his ravenous "passenger" had developed an uneasy friendship of sorts, and it sounds like their burgeoning bromance is set to be a major part of the upcoming sequel.

In the production notes for Venom: Let There Be Carnage (via ComicBook), director Andy Serkis revealed that he views the movie as a highly unconventional love story - but not between the characters you might expect!

“The film is a love story – but not the love story you might think ... It’s very much about the extraordinary relationship between symbiote and host. Any love affair has its pitfalls, its high points and low points; Venom and Eddie’s relationship absolutely causes problems and stress, and they have a near-hatred for each other. But they have to be with each other – they can’t live without each other. That’s companionship – love – the things that relationships are really about.”

For many, Eddie and Venom's dynamic was one of the most entertaining aspects of the first film, while others felt that their banter was more irritating than funny. If you happen to fall into the latter category, Serkis' comments probably won't do much to get you hyped for Let There Be Carnage!

As the title suggests, the Sony Pictures sequel will see Venom go fang-to-fang with his arch-nemesis from the comics, Carnage. The first movie did prove to be highly divisive, but many fans are likely to give Let There Be Carnage a chance, if only to witness that long-awaited battle on the big screen.

Michelle Williams and Reid Scott are set to reprise their roles from Venom, and they'll be Joined by Naomie Harris as the villainous Shriek, and Stephen Graham as Detective Patrick Mulligan. Sean Delaney, Laurence Spellman, and Larry Olubamiwo are also on board in undisclosed roles.

We recently found out that Venom 2's release had been pushed forward by two weeks, and will now open on October 1. The movie is rated PG-13 for "intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material and suggestive references."

I just wish I was more excited to see Carnage. Having Venom fight another symbiote (with essentially the same abilities) just lessens the impact of seeing him fight yet another symbiote but this time carnage, in the sequel. So please have Venom fight a non symbiote villain in the eventual sequel to this movie. I will see this movie eventually though, so I hope this movie can surprise me.

@MeAreLegend - I'm with you on that. I'm guessing Sony didn't want to take any chances since they know Carnage if very popular in the Venom stories.

I'm willing to bet Venom "will" fight a non-symbiote villain in the eventual third Venom film (if we get one). Maybe he'll even fight Spider-Man for a while (until they join forces to fight an villain).

@Waddles - I've only seen her in Jurassic Park and the two Ant-Man films, and I really like her voice work in the Archer animated series.

I've read lots of good things about her (like, for example, her talents are wasted in the three films I mentioned; lol).

@Waddles - That's too bad. Per imdb, she's had lots of small parts and some regular roles in TV series, but, even with the endless number of TV/streaming shows and films, the competition for good roles still seems to be rough.

Not really looking foward to this. Say what you want about DC and Fox but they had some good stuff. Everything from Sony for the last decade has been so bland

These are exactly the kind of things I want to hear. Sincerely. Eddie Brock is probably one of the most desperate, pathetic characters in Marvel and I'd like to see more of his dependency with Venom in the movies.
