VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE Supposedly ISN'T Going To Be Delayed Until 2022 After All

It's rare we get good news about movie release dates these days, but a new source reveals that the report claiming Venom: Let There Be Carnage is heading to 2022 is, in fact, incorrect. Check it out...

Heading into the Fall, there's obviously a lot of concern that we'll be forced to sit back and watch as more movies slip down the release calendar and into next year. The Delta variant of COVID-19 is still causing problems, but providing people continue to get vaccinated, the virus may be held at bay.

Sony Pictures recently pushed Venom: Let There Be Carnage from September 24 to October 15, clearly hoping that those few weeks will make all the difference at the box office. The studio remains committed to the theatrical experience, but did recently offload Hotel Transylvania: Transformania to Amazon Prime for a whopping $100+ million.

Of course, the first Venom movie earned over $850 million at the global box office, so it's no wonder Sony is looking to preserve that big screen experience.

Following reports that Venom: Let There Be Carnage could end up taking Morbius' release date next January, Variety has now weighed in and seemingly debunked the rumor. "Sony recently pushed its other upcoming comic book feature, 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage,' from September to October," they note, "although a studio insider says rumors the film will move further to 2022 are not true."

This is definitely good to hear, and hopefully means the rest of 2021's big movies, including the likes of No Time to Die, Eternals, Dune, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, will keep their release dates. After the latter recently blew us away with its first trailer, we don't want to think about a delay!

Keep checking back here for updates.

@L0RDbuckethead - I could really not give a … I can't stand venom, never did like him, and I hate carnage even more. Now I am excited about the "living vampire"

IT IS -- It isn't -- IT IS -- It isn't.

I've never seen anything so indecisive.

@BritishMonkey -
It will be if Shang-Chi underperforms. At the moment they expect to delay it, but obviously they won't do so if they see signs of the box office improving.

I’m not the biggest fan of the first Venom but I can’t help feeling at least a little excited to see Carnage. And I want Andy Serkis to succeed.

This news is good not just for the sequel but for other movies releasing this year so I’m all for it!

You know why? Bc they saw that the No Way Home trailer shattered viewership records and are trying to feed off that momentum.

@Frshcoupe - you’re saying that as if it’s a bad thing. God forbid a production doesn’t feed off the momentum of it’s other movie

@Frshcoupe - Marvel Studios has found a way to attract back even those who hate the Homecoming saga by teasing Tobey Maguire's return.

@Cap1 - no it’s not a bad thing at all. I’m glad it’s not being delayed. And I’m happy they feel as though the movie will perform well.

I mean cool if it isn't, but wouldn't be bummed if it did. Harrelson so far is the only reason I'm intrigued about this one.

@ModHaterSLADE - also Serkis for me. But other than that, there's not a lot I'm looking foward to

After Sony's recent pro-cinema quotes, this doesn't surprise me. Can't delay movies forever

Venom wasn't a critical darling but the movie ended up being popular enough with the audience so I think it could still do well enough despite everything.

Also, I'm pretty sure Sony will promote the movie by teasing some No Way Home connection at some point like they did for Morbius.

I thought they could move it but considering they’ve really ramped up their marketing this last week or so it doesn’t seem like that is there plan. Of course things can change though but Free Guy’s hold is definitely a positive sign and if Shang-Chi can put up a decent number I imagine they’ll release in October (which was better release date than a few weeks after Shang-Chi anyway).

I say push it to January. It belongs in the ultimate dumping month, and it means more breathing room for movies that actually have a shot at being good.
