Aside from a brief quote in a single Tweet, we've yet to see any critic reactions to Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The review embargo lifts on September 30, but our first word on the sequel came from fans who attended a screening in London yesterday evening.
Many of those lucky enough to catch the film early have promised a jaw-dropping mid-credits scene, and according to CBR, audio from the stinger has found its way online. We won't be describing it for you, but descriptions are doing the rounds on social media and the usual places (so, head here to check out one fan's breakdown...if you dare!).
From what we can gather, critics who attended screenings for Venom: Let There Be Carnage's recent junket were not shown this scene, likely because Sony didn't want it mentioned in interviews.
Given the way it teases the character's future, that does make sense, as it could have ended up dominating conversations with the film's cast and crew. Unfortunately, some fans haven't respected Sony's request to keep quiet about what they saw, and that's how these spoilers have started doing the rounds (how one of them managed to record the audio is beyond us).
It's unclear when the social media embargo lifts for critics, but those reviews should be interesting to read through at the end of the month. Thus far, it does sound like a significant improvement over 2018's Venom, and hiring Andy Serkis to take over from Ruben Fleischer appears to have been a smart move on Sony's part. Alas, we're not sure what that means for next year's Uncharted adaptation!
