Deadline is reporting that English actor Stephen Graham has joined the cast of Sony Pictures' upcoming Venom sequel, which has Andy Serkis (Breathe; Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle) set to direct and Tom Hardy returning to star as the titular antihero.

Further details on his role are currently being kept under wraps.

Graham joins a cast that, in addition to being headlined by Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, will also feature Michelle Williams (Fosse/Verdon) as Anne Weying, Woody Harrelson (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Cletus Kasady/Carnage and Naomie Harris (No Time to Die) as Shriek.

Serkis is directing with a screenplay from Kelly Marcel, who also penned the script for the original. Pre-poduction has seemingly gotten underway, which likely means filming should begin in the not so distant future, presumably at the top of 2020.

Graham's past credits include This is EnglandSnatch ,  Gangs of New YorkBoardwalk Empire, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Tinker Tailer Soldier SpyPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No TalesHellboy, Rocketman and most recently, The Irishman.

And because of joker's sucess they want it to be R Rated, seriously Venom should be R rated, but hopefully the story they tell actually fits an r rating and they don't just add some blood

@dracula - An r rating has never made a film better that i have ever watched so this kind of talk continues to be childish.

@rkshuttleworth - True an R rating can't make a bad film good, but there are characters that just make more sense to have r ratings, because of the nature of the character. Like Joker, Deadpool, Logan. Sure taking out the blood wouldn't make them bad, but it works for the stories being told.

Oh yes! More of that please!
Graham is fantastic.

Really excited to see how they expand the role of Jacob Marley for him in BBC Christmas Carol.

@Nightmare - He would've made a great Penguin. Michael Stuhlberg was also wasted in Doctor Strange.
