The long-gestating Halo TV series has now hit yet another roadblock.

The video game adaption's original showrunner Kyle Killen (Lone Star, Awake) quietly departed the show back in 2019, with Steven Kane (The Last Ship, The Closer) taking over. After overseeing production in Budapest for the past few years, Kane is also set to exit the series once filming wraps in a few weeks time.

This is just the latest in a series of behind-the-scenes incidents that have plagued Halo ever since plans to develop the project were first announced back in 2014, beginning with original director Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) stepping away and being replaced by Otto Bathurst (Black Mirror, Robin Hood). Recently, we learned that the series has moved from Showtime to the new Paramount+ streaming service.

No reason was given for Kane's departure, but we can only hope that all of this drama doesn't have an impact of the quality of the final product.

Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black, American Gods) is set to play the lead role of Master Chief, and he'll be joined by Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, Yerin Ha and Kate Kennedy.

According to an official logline, the series will focus on "an epic 26th century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."

I'm getting tired of the word "showrunner." It's terribly pretentious.

@Thing94 - Why? Doesn't it accurately describe the job? The person in charge of running the show?

The fact that they can't get a Halo series or movie down by now is so embarrassing. It's so god damn simple.

Should have just let neill blomkamp do it years ago.

At least he is staying for the end of season 1; if the show even makes it for a season 2 and beyond I'd go after CW 100's Jason Rothenberg, Westworld's Jonathan Nolan, Witcher's Lauren S. Hissrich, Duffer Brothers, &/or Raised by Wolves Ridley Scott
