HALO Season 2 Gets A Premiere Date As The First Look Trailer Pits Master Chief Against The Covenant

After over a year, Paramount+ has finally revealed when Halo will return for its long-awaited second season and it's a lot sooner than anyone might've expected. Check out the new trailer now!

Over the weekend, during CCXP, Paramount+ debuted the first official trailer for Halo season two, and announced that the series will finally return on February 8, with a two-episode premiere.

It will then air a new episode every week until its season finale, which will presumably happen sometime in mid-March.

While the trailer doesn't offer much in terms of plot details or Master Chief's newfound status quo, the new season looks to be a considerable step up from season one as John-117 (Pablo Schreiber) leads his team against the might of the Covenant.

The synopsis reads as follows, "Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant are preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction — the Halo."

Returning from season one are Pablo Schreiber ("Master Chief"), Natascha McElhone ("Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey"), Jen Taylor ("Cortana"), Bokeem Woodbine ("Soren-066"), Shabana Azmi ("Admiral Margaret Parangosky"), Natasha Culzac ("Riz-028"), Olive Gray ("Commander Miranda Keyes"), Yerin Ha ("Kwan Ha"), Bentley Kalu ("Vannak-134"), Kate Kennedy ("Kai-125"), Charlie Murphy ("Makee"), Danny Sapani ("Captain Jacob Keyes"), Fiona O'Shaughnessy ("Laera"), and Tylan Bailey ("Kessler").

Newcomers for season two include Joseph Morgan (The Vampire DiariesThe Originals) as James Ackerson and Christina Rodlo (No One Gets Out of Here AliveThe Homeless World Cup) as Talia Perez.

Halo starts streaming, exclusively on Paramount+, on February 8!

In season two, Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant are preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction — the Halo.

Led by showrunner and executive producer David Wiener (Brave New World), the series takes place in the universe that first debuted in 2001 with the launch of Xbox®’s first HALO game. Dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant, HALO the series weaves deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.

HALO stars Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) as Master Chief, Spartan-117 and Natascha McElhone (Californication) as Dr. Halsey, who also both serve as producers this season. Additional returning cast members include Jen Taylor (HALO game series, RWBY) as Cortana, Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo), Shabana Azmi (Fire), Natasha Culzac (The Witcher), Olive Gray (Half Moon Investigations), Yerin Ha (Reef Break), Bentley Kalu (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Kate Kennedy (Catastrophe), Charlie Murphy (Peaky Blinders) and Danny Sapani (Penny Dreadful).

New additions to the cast this season include Joseph Morgan (Vampire Diaries, The Originals) and Cristina Rodlo (No One Gets Out of Here Alive, The Homeless World Cup). Morgan joins the series as James Ackerson, a formidable intelligence operative who has spent his career climbing the ranks of the UNSC’s secretive Office of Naval Intelligence. Rodlo is Talia Perez, a corporal specializing in linguistics for a UNSC Marine Corps communications unit and a relatively new recruit who has yet to see any real combat. Returning from season one, Laera (Fiona O’Shaughnessy) is Soren’s confidant, wife and partner in crime. Soren and Laera’s son, Kessler (Tylan Bailey), has had a relatively peaceful, if unusual, childhood growing up on the Rubble.

Season one took a shit right into the mouths of Halo fans, just like what they did with Witcher. [frick] this show

Ugh... I... feel....... really ambiguous about this. Did it really do that well to garner a second season? Part of me wants to hope they learned from the previous season, but historically, that rarely occurs... I just can't wrap my head around this.. I haven't watched the trailer yet. The single best part of the first season was the first episode when they went into first person POV for a hot minute. The rest... I just couldn't find a way to enjoy it the way I would have liked...

You know it's a bad sign when they aren't even hiding that master chief will have his helmet off for 99% of the show.

@Origame - That part about these movie adaptations is always the funniest part...as if we wouldn't know Downey was Stark, Holland Parker, etc. The best comic based movies for me tend to be ones like V for Vendetta because of this, or Dredd. If the character's so precious and interesting fully accept the duality. I feel like they'd toss Batman out there with no mask if they thought they could get away with it.

Man, I miss that game. Used to have some epic 4 on 4 battles in 2 hotel rooms we'd rent for a night and pig out on pizza and drink until the last guy passed out. It was fun but it was a great night if someone called the cops on us no more than 2 times during the night for noise pollution. "Welcome back officer Mitchel!" :D

@lazlodaytona - while halo infinite has come a long way, the property was terribly mismanaged

Like resident evil movies back in the day, I had to just accept that this isn't the halo I grew up with to watch it. But even then, it wasn't anything more than average. Having chief in a love story with an alien sympathizer was throwing salt on the wound

So very bold of them to pick a random ass actor to be the face of one of the biggest video game characters to never show his face.

I thought the first season was fine personally. I'm interested to see where it goes, but man the visual effects are not up to Pollos standards. Go big or go home Paramount.

Season One of Halo was utter Woke trash. Worse than Star Trek Discovery, even.

It changed the entire idea of the Spartans by basically making them controllable automaton slaves instead of the mythology created by the games that they were supposed to be the best, most intelligent, most logical and clearly-thinking humans possible to create the best soldiers who ever lived. Fully capable of thinking and doing for themselves.

The changes to Miranda Keyes and Jacob Keyes, regardless of the idiotic race swap, absolutely ruined everything good about them. Miranda became the knows everything, never wrong, always better than every man around her GIRL BOSS and Jacob became a no-nothing moron.

Frak this show.

If the show ditches the Kwan and MC love story subplots, it could actually be a pretty interesting show.

Hopefully this season will delve more into actual Halo lore. And from the sound of that premise, we'll get that in the form of the fall of Reach.

Interesting to see Joseph Morgan in this, his character was annoying on TVD/TO but he's a solid actor. Of all the Originals alums I'd love to see Daniel Gillies join a relevant franchise sometime

Fool me once...
The only thing that would save the mess they made is if the Covenant attack Reach, and everyone get such a panic they forget everything that happened in S1 and they all rush to the start of Halo: Combat, no questions asked and never mention anything ever again about emotion supressing pellets, Kwan, a human living with The Covenant or any other of the crap they changed from the lore ever again.

Or have Master Chief wake up from cryosleep at Installation 04 going, "I had the weirdest dream".
